  • 1970s - best karate kicker in the USA - "Larry trained at my school in Connecticut in the late 70's and 80's. I had sponsored him on the sport karate circuit back then. This is a picture of the cover of Karate Illustrated with Larry doing what he did best, kicking someone in the head wearing an East West Karate t-shirt. In the 80's he was named the best kicker in the country by Sport Karate magazine. Larry was also instrumental in changing the rules for scoring 2 points for a kick. Goal was to promote more kicking and making the sport more exciting." - Greg Silva ... Farmington school Farmington maybe 1978 - 1982

He was such a driving force in the MA community. This is truly a great loss. I have reels of tape of Larry fighting in the "A" rated tournaments back in the day."
    • Kirik Jenness Hey Mike, Larry started at The Karate Shop in Springfield, Mass, under Leo Sagan, as noted below. The dojo was originally part of the Tracy's chain, but broke away and was under Thomas St. Charles. Much of what Larry did in terms of competition, he developed on his own as far as I ever knew, and I knew pretty well.
