Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/China

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to China. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|China|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to China. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

Fails WP:NSOFT. I could not find any reliable source. Mfixerer (talk) 21:25, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources.
    1. "Chinese Basic". Australian Personal Computer. Vol. 3, no. 11. November 1982. p. 11. Retrieved 2024-07-01 – via Internet Archive.

The article notes: "Chinese Basic. The hieroglyphics shown here are actually standard Basic code, displayed in Chinese, and the product which produces them has been launched by Multitech Industrial Corporation in the Chinese island of Taiwan. Originally produced to help Taiwanese (who didn't speak English) to learn Basic programming, the product is now being sold to other non-English speaking peoples—or to English-speaking computer builders who wish to sell to them."

    2. Zhao, Rong-Yao; Pu, Hao-Zhe (1976). "Development of a Chinese BASIC compiler". Proceedings of the National Computer Symposium of the Republic of China 1976. National Taiwan University.

The book notes: "Even before the advent of esolangs, attempts were made to create programming languages in Chinese and other Asian languages. Notable is Chinese BASIC, invented in the early eighties, which permitted within the same program Chinese ideograms, English letters, and abbreviated commands (such as “?” for “PRINT”). Inputting Chinese into a keyboard is something of a science in itself, as elements of ideograms, such as the radical or a geometric element (the shape of a box, for example) of characters related by a complex set of "decomposition rules" have to be mapped out over a QWERTY keyboard. Cangjie is based on the graphological aspect of the characters: each graphical unit is represented by a character component, twenty-four in all, each mapped to a particular letter key on a standard QWERTY keyboard. An additional “difficult character" function is mapped to the X key."

    4. Lee, Jinn-Bao (1982). A Curriculum Model for Computer Literacy in Taiwan (PhD thesis). Texas A&M University. ProQuest 303265003.

The PhD thesis notes: "As to the type of programming languages for the computer literacy instruction, Chinese BASIC was most frequently recommended by the high school principals while English BASIC was suggested by a majority of both the department heads and the industrialists. Other languages were recommended less frequently."

    5. "伙計中文培基語言來啦" [Mate, Chinese BASIC language is coming]. Economic Daily News [zh] (in Chinese). 1987-10-24. p. 10.

      The article notes: "找國第一套中文培基語言已由經智資訊公司開發成功,這套命名為伙計的中文培基語言,可直接用中文使用,對學習程式相當方便,將有助於國內資訊教育的推廣。"

From Google Translate: "The country's first set of Chinese BASIC languages has been successfully developed by Jingzhi Information Company. This set of Chinese training languages named Buddy can be used directly in Chinese. It is very convenient for learning programs and will contribute to the promotion of domestic information education."

    6. "廣智產多項套裝軟體 分依特性擬人化命名" [Guangzhi produces multiple software packages. Anthropomorphic naming based on characteristics]. Economic Daily News [zh] (in Chinese). 1989-03-06. p. 24.

      The article notes: "「伙計」是第一套中文培基直譯器(BASIC Interpreter),擁有GW-BASIC完全相容的標準功能,並增加賀克(Hercules)卡繪圖能力,提供真正的中文使用環境。"

From Google Translate: ""Buddy" is the first set of Chinese BASIC Interpreter, which has standard functions that are fully compatible with GW-BASIC, and adds Hercules card drawing capabilities, providing a true Chinese usage environment."

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow Chinese BASIC (Chinese: 中文培基) to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

Non-notable skater; medal placement at the junior level or bronze/silver medals at the national championships do not meet the requirements of WP:NSKATE. already have Li Keqiang Government & China under Xi Jinping Coddlebean (talk) 08:59, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Walsh90210: Not really, they are quite distinctive. The key difference is that the subject article includes details about the distribution of power between Xi and Li, which Li Keqiang Government would and should not cover. Another distinction is that the discussion/analysis of this term usually focuses on the power shift from a more equally distributed structure to one more heavily leaning towards Xi, as well as the conflicts between Xi and Li's policies and governance. This is clearly differentiated from Li Keqiang government again, which solely covers the administrative structure of the State Council. Rather than a merge, this article requires an expansion. —Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 05:55, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    1. The school’s official website is suspected to be a website built by the editor.
    2. The school emblem and school song are suspected to be composed by the editor. The entry states that the school song from 2024 will be "People from No. 3 Middle School Pursuing the Other Sun" and the audio file is uploaded. However, according to [1], the school song in March 2024 will be "Brilliant Talents Grow in Lixiang".
    3. The chapter "School History" is completely inconsistent with [2] "Lingcheng No. 3 Middle School was founded in November 2001 and was renamed Lingshan County Lingcheng No. 3 Middle School in December 2011."
    4. The school motto "Inspiring students to study hard and pursue excellence" should be "Study diligently and achieve excellence" ([3]), and the philosophy "Let students be admitted to good high schools and make students become obedient and good children" should be "education with ideals" To realize the ideal of education” ([4])
    5. "Internet Censorship" is an entire chapter of original research and fictitious reference materials. The ISBN of "Research and Reference on the Militarized Management of Education in Guangxi" is found to be a Chinese textbook for the first volume of ninth grade.
    6. User:鸡景行 also translated the entries into English Wiki and Cantonese Wiki.

The website you mentioned is probably created by the user 鸡景行, because I didn't find any info about the school's homepage on Baidu, and most Chinese school website has .edu (second-level domain) and ended with top-level demain .cn (Sometimes ended with .com). Also, the coat of arms is very rough.
There may be local factbook like "灵山县志:1995-2005 [Lingshan County History Factbook:1995-2005]. OCLC 1336361481." that notice the existence of Lingshan NO.3 school, but I couldn't get the content. Article from 2012 tagged for speedy deletion 12 years later as unambiguous advertising (criterion G11). The article does contain some promotional language (e.g. "The Qiu Shi Foundation was named after the famous Qiu Shi Academy" and "Cha was best known for his industrial prowess, building a multinational textile conglomerate.") but this is mostly a stub article on a Chinese research prize where there are some examples of the awards being newsworthy, see e.g. [13]. However, while the awards have made it into some news articles, I am unable to determine the independence or reliability of these sources, and none of them are cited in the current article. The sources I have found are also much more about the person receiving the award than the award itself. While the promotional language is not severe enough for it to warrant a speedy deletion, I am bringing it to AFD and recommending delete. Sjakkalle (Check!) 07:08, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jiang Lei received a grant of one million yuan (US$150,000) as winner of the Qiu Shi outstanding scientist award at a ceremony on Saturday night at the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, Anhui province. ... Previous Qiu Shi Award winners include Tu Youyou, who went on to receive the Nobel Prize in medicine for the discovery of artemisinin, saving millions of lives from malaria; Pan Jianwei, who later led the launch of the world’s first quantum satellite; and Zhang Yitang, who proved a theorem that had eluded mathematicians for more than a century. This year, in addition to the main prize, 12 outstanding young scientists were each awarded a US$90,000 grant, over three years, in recognition of their returning to China, with all their scientific potential, after overseas education or employment. ... • Keep. The content of this articles meets the criteria for inclusion and meet WP:N. The remover Saqib WP:POINT, did not communicate directly with the creator (me) about how to "improve" this articles. Instead, after I continued to add numerous reliable sources, Saqib decided to simply delete it, which also violates WP:FAITH. --TinaLees-Jones (talk) 23:26, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • TinaLees-Jones, But the problem here is that the article just doesn't meet the WP:N. It's not about needing improvement; it's about meeting the criteria for inclusion on WP. And just so you know, I don't need anyone's permission to nominate articles for deletion. Still, I do want to acknowledge the effort you've put into creating this article. — Saqib (talk) 06:42, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      • User:Saqib: the first thing that needs to be emphasized is that the friendly relations between Pakistan and China are dependent on the exchange of visits by top leaders, the official visits themselves, especially since both Pakistan and China, both with hundreds of millions of people, are equipped with attention (WP:N). It's not a vlogger with millions of followers releasing a new song, it's not a visit by a minister or a senator, it's an official diplomatic event representing the will of the nations. I'm not fully aware of Pakistan's internal political tensions, and I don't really care what a specific Pakistani editor's favorites are for specific politicians. WP:N is judged on the basis of facts and sources, and if a visit lacks official coverage from both sides, then it naturally lacks attention. If the Western media also be aware of, then this proves that the event has really touched some people's interests, which strengthens the basis of WP:N. --TinaLees-Jones (talk) 07:20, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
        • As far as Nawaz Sharif's visits to China are concerned, there have been five in total, one in July 2013, one in April 2014 (to attend Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia), one in November 2014 to attend APEC 2014, one in 2015 December 2015 SCO, and once in May 2017 at the 2017 Belt and Road Forum. then the correct way would have been to write the 2013 official visit by Nawaz Sharif to China as an independent article, with the rest to be merged into the corresponding conference ones, and if I am happy I would write it later. The correct editorial logic, however, is that diplomacy is all about reciprocal visits, and entries on reciprocal visits that corroborate each other add to the credibility and readability of the articles - one by one, gradually. --TinaLees-Jones (talk) 07:20, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
          • TinaLees-Jones, Notability is not temporary and WP:LASTING states An event that is a precedent or catalyst for something else of lasting significance is likely to be notable. State visits are usually routine and we've no way of knowing if this particular visit will be historically significant or even momentous event, since the history hasn't been written yet. All we have are some news reports, which are WP:ROTM coverage. Nor this visit yielded any significant outcome or significant effect on the Pak-China relation so I think that it's just like another routine state visit without enduring significance and so clearly fails WP:NEVENT. The press coverage of this official visit doesn't automatically fulfill the requirements of WP:NEVENT. I won't delve into this further. I feel I've expressed my perspective adequately so now I'll leave it to others to make their own assessments. — Saqib (talk) 07:54, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Very weak keep. This is a rare case where I believe WP:ROUTINE applies. All state visits are covered extensively in Chinese media. However, the Al Jazeera and Reuters sources make it hard for me to !vote delete in good faith. Toadspike [Talk] 04:14, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • Toadspike, But I don't really see anything particularly extraordinary about this visit. Take, for example, Nawaz Sharif's visit to China back in 2014. That was a big deal because it kicked off the CPEC project in Pakistan, which was worth billions! But we don't even have an article about that visit. So, why should we have one for Shahbaz's recent trip which was a pretty routine stuff. WP isn't a newspaper, right? — Saqib (talk) 06:38, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see anything particularly extraordinary either, but the significant coverage in Al Jazeera and Reuters, which are not based in Pakistan or China, makes it seem vaguely notable. Your other argument is just WP:OTHERSTUFF. I already marked my !vote as "very weak" and the closer will interpret it accordingly, what more do you want? article is written to legitimize this term, making it seem its use is widespread. there isn't even a chinese wikipedia article about this term. search up "沒女", most results (and most sources in the article) are about the tv show 没女大翻身. ltbdl (talk) 08:53, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
