A vertical lift section of the bridge is shown in the down position. This section, when raised, provides clearance for river traffic. The Portland canal leads to the McAlpine Locks. The right (north) side of the bridge is in Clarksville, Indiana. An article on this bridge is in Wikipedia as "Fourteenth Street Bridge (Ohio River).
