English: 1950s Craven Silver Arrow motorcycle pannier made from flat-sheet paxolin, glued construction reinforced by plywood top and bottom, soft-wood quadrant in vertical corners and mild-steel flat strip at opening. Made to be QD (quickly detachable) fitted with a carry-handle using rubber-bobbin mountings on rear fitted onto pegs attached to carrier, with a Dzus fastener on rear face (attaching to a carrier sub-frame). Additional thumbscrew-turn mountings were attached to the top face, removed on this example. This is how panniers were fabricated prior to the introduction of fibreglass mouldings. Other materials were used such as plywood and softwood.
