- Thank you again for your response. I did read your user page and, for want of a better term, I was 'moved' by what you wrote. I don't believe it applies to all articles since anything notable by secondary sources can have an article and neither you or me can change that. But you may find that articles in Project Medicine may require more of what you know and articles that your talents could be of great value. Important, highly viewed medical articles are pitifully filled with outdated references. Also I think I better understand what you mean by correlation does not equal causation, but what I am truly wondering is that if there are many studies that continue, over decades, correlate with the idea that bacteria can cause cancer are we not approaching causation? If, for example, Koch's postulates can not be applied to those infectious agents that take decades to develop, such as Hepatitis A, due partly to transmission by two routes, sexually and vertically but yet the infection does not develop into cancer if the population is vaccinated, is this not causation. I truly look forward to your reply. Best Regards,

- btw the empathy in chicken article was created by me exactly for the reasons that you state-that verifiability (if that is a word} does not an encyclopedia article make. Check out Pain in invertebrates. Empathy in chickes was intended to 'spoof' that article. I think there is also an article Pain in fish. I am not a big fan of animal rights and found these two articles to be essays. My favorite line was that 'bees are pessimistic". My husband and I laugh about that all the time.

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Empathy in chickens is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Empathy in chickens until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Welcoming Committee
Thank you for the kind words and the barnstar! I would be very interested in helping with the "Welcoming Committee" here on Wikipedia, because it is important to let new editors know that they are valued ad important. I feel that I do a lot for Wikipedia, yet generally the only time people come to my talk page is to complain about the one thing I did wrong. It feels like many editors forget what its like to be new here, and treat me with such condescension. Your message was the first time in recent memory that I have actually been recognized for what I've done right, rather than what I'e done wrong. Please give me some more information on this "Welcoming Committee," because I would like to treat new editors better than I was treated. Thank you! Rswallis10 (talk) 14:11, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Tuesday
Hi BFP -
I recently saw a ping you had sent to me some time ago, but only when it got sent to your archives. I'm going to be out of town until Tuesday, PST. I'm sorry for not getting to your queries sooner, I both just have erratic health issues and managed to get my whole system pretty trojaned out right around the time of your original message. I would ask that you start a section on my talk page on Tuesday so that we can have a discussion about remaining issues you have around this set of issues, and so that we can work out a firmer/more collaboratve set of guidelines. I'm sorry I didn't get to your query sooner, but this has not been the easiest month.
Once I'm back on-wiki and you have started a section on my userpage, I think we can pretty much consider it a temporary exemption to the protocols we set up - but be aware that all general WP rules still apply, and if another user takes too much of an issue they could escalate it again further or take the issue beyond me and back to ANI, etc Since some time has elapsed and you will be primarily be talking directly to me unless someone else wants to contribute (and if they do so productively on my talk page, I'll let them - if they troll, I'll remove them at my discretion,) you may have to take other peoples' lack of objections to my actions as at least a belief on their part that with, whatever 'final' standards we work out, you'll be a productive editor who didn't do what they previously felt violated WP's policies. (I just say that because it's a pretty 'stale' issue by WP standards by now, and we usually ignore even pretty bad behavior if it's stale - so honestly if I fully reviewed all diffs and saw that someone had done something I would have blocked them at the time, I wouldn't block them for it now, though depending on it's severity I might expect at least an acknowledgement of it on their part (though I reserve the right to let issues go if I feel that bringing them back up would generate more heat than light - i.e., if bringing them up again just would not be worth it.)
I would suggest not starting the section on my talk until Tuesday, since I won't be around to respond, and not discussing any remaining details in depth until then besides a general 'tuesday sounds good' or 'lets do thursday instead' - I suggest so just because people could escalate what they felt was inappropriate behavior on your part to ANI if they felt it was egregious enough, and in some unfortunate situation I might return on Tuesday to find a block placed on you that I'd have trouble justifying modifying (though I doubt that will happen/certainly hope it won't.) Generally speaking, few admins would feel comfortable altering unblock agreements of the sort worked out between an admin and a person they had unblocked, unless the unblocking admin had totally disappeared.
That said, I'm glad to see you've been and and about, at least a little. I apologize for not getting to this sooner - it totally deserved sooner attention on my part, I just had a particularly challenging month. That said, I look forward to having a productive discussion with you on Tuesday, and hope things go well :) I will note here as I have before, that I feel that some of the conditions you set were harsher than were necessary, and would be totally fine with altering some of them/making some of them looser than they are currently.

- It's good to here from. I hate to tell you that the 'guidelines' have sort of moved to the back of my mind; I have been editing other types of things and have begun to translate some content into Haitian kreyol. Some WMF contractor found out that I can read and write Ayisian kreyol and put me to work for a while.
- It will be good to go over the type of stuff that you refer to so that, I mean this sincerely, I don't want to stumble into a similar situation in the future. As a matter of fact, I got curious about another editor and figured out there is a lot of overlap in our editing. So I am trying to be 'smart' about the situation and back off to try and minimize the counts that would appear on the 'never-wrong' editor interaction analyzer tool'. Have some nice days off. I SAW YOU ON TOUTUBE! How funny is that? Best Regards,
- Kevin Gorman I hate to remind you that the "
inappropriate behavior
" as raised at the last AN/I amounted to the editing of a few category pages. Yes I appreciate that there were previous issues but this is what we are dealing with. GregKaye 09:48, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

You've been busy :)
Hi Barbera,
I saw your name on a view history listing of edits and thought I'd call by. I was hoping to see that you were still involved but didn't expect to be put to shame :)
I'm really pleased to see how things are apparently going and hope that, with many things hopefully being chalked productively to experience, things are going smoothly.
I have not seen any similar case get raised as the one that we were involved in but I haven't been looking too hard. It remains a concern to me that little emphasis is given to resolution of differences but it didn't seem that other editors shared this view but no worries.
The edit count facility wasn't working when I tried but I would be interested to know where your interests have taken you and what are you doing?
regards GregKaye 10:14, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for checking up on me. I really need to put your talk page on my watchlist so we can stay in touch. I am still very interested in working on the process that I was involved in. If it weren't for you, I probably would have stopped editing altogether. I believe that, in the meantime, I would like to eventually become an administrator and focus on working on the whole process from that angle. It will take me a year to 'prove' myself and prepare answers to the more typical questions that will be raised in the process. So I won't apply for admin status until then. So put me on your 'to-do' list and send me helpful suggestions.
- Things are going smoothly, I believe. Ironically, very recently I was being 'followed' around and having a large number of edits reverted by an editor-so I stopped putting myself in this editor's 'sphere of influence' and editing articles that I knew would be critically examined and reverted. So I am walking away from this situation at this time. If you would like to see what I am talking about, see the talk page of the article ketogenic diet and the talk page history of project medicine. Look for my name. Any advice from you would be greatly appreciated. I feel that I am being treated inappropriately and that my editing is being hampered due to these situations. I am not asking or canvassing you to make any responses at all to these already outdated discussions.
- I have found it difficult to find other editors who will collaborate in editing articles with me. I was working on bringing the article Pelvic inflammatory disease up to GA status, asked for assistance on the proj med talk page and received no response from the other 350 proj med editors. Stay in touch and let me know of any situations that appear to be similar to what I experienced/am experiencing. I seriously wonder how many editors have been lost due to the process that is not encouraging and does not adhere to WP:HERE. Best Regards,

Re your comments in the acidic mouth deletion discussion
Assume you mean, articles should not be deleted because their *sources* do not meet MEDRS. Agree with this, as long as reliable sources can be found to replace them (i.e the subject is notable for an article). This particular article did contain a few more reliable sources, but as I explained in the rationale, no reliable sources can be found which use the term. Therefore the topic is not notable for an article, and is a neologism which does not belong here. Matthew Ferguson (talk) 19:16, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- I believe that we are in agreement. I can't argue that the term was/is not a neologism, though I don't remember that being brought up. That would have been a reason for not including the article in the encyclopedia-but there was much discussion about not meeting MEDRS as a reason for its exclusion. I find this troubling. Feel free to continue this discussion on my talk page. I believe it is worth exploring. Best Regards,
Hi Bfpage, I am writing a new article in my sandbox. It has over 100 references. I see from example how to insert the reference and the wiki automatic numbering system. Question 1: How do I reference the same publication in several places in my article? Question 2: When I enter multiple references at the same point it reads [34][35][36]? Can I make it read [34-36]? If you just change enough to show me the pattern I can probably go from there. The article I am writing is an update and reformat of a 2000 U.S. Gov. publication in "Review of Scientific Instruments" of which I am the only author. I understand that as a Gov. publication there is no copyright problem. The unformatted text at the end is the original text pasted from the RSI article - waiting for my attention. The duplicated figures are just space holders until I can get the correct ones uploaded. Another question: Are all the keyword links to other Wikipedia articles added automatically at some point? I have found working for Wikipedia educational and enjoyable. I have made some significant edits to "Inverted Pendulum" and "Capstan Equation" Thank your for your help with this. Also when you left your previous message here you weren't signed in with your user name so all I could see was your IP address. - 2 Also why did you remove the topics/headlines/pointers i added (i understand the explanations were a bit long) , eg the point about "There is one god who is found by grace of god "
This is actually an important text and the granth/book starts with this (in Gurmukhi dialect of course) , and it has so much significance that the original author The 5th Guru had added that to the beginning of all the prayers .

Hello!
First, on behalf of WikiProject X, thank you for trying out the WikiProject X pilot projects. I would like to get some anonymous feedback from you on your experience using the new WikiProject layout and tools. This way, we will know what we did right, and if we did something horribly wrong, we can try to fix it. This feedback won't be associated with your username, so please be completely honest. We are determined to improve the experience of Wikipedians, and your feedback helps us with that. (You are also welcome to leave non-anonymous feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject X.)
Please complete the survey here. The survey has two parts: the first part asks for your username, while the second part contains the survey questions. These two parts are stored separately, so your username will not be associated with your feedback. There are only nine questions and it should not take very long to complete. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. I was distracted by some interaction with the folks at WikiEd who have allowed me to become a Widipedia Visiting Scholar with the University of Pittsburgh, there was a lot of 'paperwork' involved. I need one more 'read-through' and that should do the trick. Best Regards,

I saw your notice of your connection to the article on your talk page. I'll go see if it is still somehow connected with the article during its review process. Best Regards,

A barnstar for you!
The Barnstar of Diligence | |
You've made significant efforts to improve the encyclopedia, even a situation came up where a long-ish block could've been justified and I asked you to follow some guidelines to make sure the situation didn't recur. You basically doubled the guidelines, and then got to work improving ENWP content in a meaningful way without blinking at the fact that you had been briefly justifiably blocked with the possibility of a longer block. If every person I ever blocked had a similar reaction, ENWP would have a lot more high quality content. Thank you for being willing to set aside any pettiness, and focus on improving the encyclopedia. Kevin Gorman (talk) 19:48, 2 November 2015 (UTC) |
- Thank you for the barnstar. As for not 'blinking', I can't possibly characterize or minimize my block in this way. As for contributing to the encyclopedia in a 'meaningful way'...well, hmmm...that's what I thought I was doing all along. Yes, there was the possibility of being blocked even longer but I am not sure that is a tactful thing to put into a barnstar...why bring up a past threat, twice? There is no pettiness to set aside and I have always focused on improving the encyclopedia. You probably don't need to mention the justifiability of the block, twice, either. You're a good guy and I wish you the best. Best Regards,

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Haitian Wikipedia admin
I'll be happy to accept this position! On HT's village pump I will present a plan for attracting more users who will have fluency on the language WhisperToMe (talk) 22:13, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
- I think you should list yourself as a supporter at ht:Wikipedya:Administratè, just so that there can be no question about whether you've changed your mind or are neutral. Also, I redirected the English userpage for User:MdmPaj here; feel free to change that and/or to redirect the user talk page as well. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:30, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
- I see that WTM has accepted the nomination, which is good, but I meant that MdmPaj should probably "officially" vote in favor of her proposed candidate. ;-) Numbers matter. WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:02, 14 December 2015 (UTC)
- We win! WhisperToMe has been created as an admin, for the next 3 months. Assuming that there are no complaints, then re-appointments should be easy. (The stewards are usually nervous about creating a permanent admin at a place with such a tiny community.) WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:11, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Animal attacks
Hi,
I think you have an interest in Animal attacks. Wiki-years ago, in the last couple of days actually, I saw an article in wp:AfD (biogaphy/Canadian) which was about a woman attacked by a shark ( forget the type) in Mexico. I was going to tell you about it, but got distracted. and now I cannot find it, sigh... Ottawahitech (talk) 20:53, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks so much. I usually update the page by doing a news search for recent incidences. I did a historical search once and then that's where I found out that house cats have killed infants. If you like searching for such things, just post a url here on my talk page and I will follow up on it. The Very Best of Regards.
- I found the AfDed article, Nicole Moore. It was created by a new editor and A7ed the minute it appeared on wikipedia, and after some wrangling the CSD was finally declined by an admin. It looks like this new editor (who is now being disparaged at AfD) put some work into it -- a real shame how we treat editor wannabes here, sigh.. Ottawahitech (talk) 02:35, 6 December 2015 (UTC)please ping me
- We need to ask for some stats on how many people never add content again after they've been treated like that. What a shame, what a terrible shame. I keep trying to find new editors to encourage and I just can't seem to find them...they appear and then vanish. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that anyone can edit...and then watch the edit disappear in five seconds. Best Regards,

Happy Birthday to You (song)
Hi. You recently accepted an edit by an IP user to the article Happy Birthday to You. I wanted to let you know that generally, changes to the name (of the birthday person) within the article are not considered constructive, because the original published version of the song contains the name "John" rather than any other name. Of course, people who sing this song change the name (while singing it) to the name of the birthday person, and this is reflected in the article, but the lyrics should report the official version. Thank you for your contributions and thank you for patrolling edits to articles such as these -- your help is invaluable. Etamni | ✉ | ✓ 17:15, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Questions about Wikipedia
Hi, Barbara! I wanted to ask you some questions about Wikipedia. I saw you "reviewed" my article (Human milk oligosaccharide). How is "reviewing" differentiated from "patrolling"?
Also, when I looked up your primary account I was interested to find out that you're participating in a "visiting scholar" program. How do people get selected for that? I assume, of course, that you actually have to be a scholar! But what are the other criteria? That seems like a pretty neat program. Snazzywiki (talk) 16:19, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
