He, along with the rest of the squad, battled to keep Castleford in the top flight. Ryan suffered a hamstring injury towards the end of the 2006 season, but was forced to play due to lack of numbers. Unfortunately Castleford fell out of the elite competition on Sep 16 with 19 points. Ryan, despite interest from other clubs, signed a 2 year contract to stay with them until 2008, on the 26th of October 2006. McGoldrick played for the Tigers during the 2007 season, starting it playing in his less-preferred position of stand-off, which seemed to unsettle him. However as the season progressed, he managed to move into the centre role and began to show fantastic form.
He earned a call-up to represent the American (USA) national rugby league side in the World Cup qualifiers at the end of the season, featuring in their defeat to Samoa. His club's (Castleford Tigers) coach Terry Matterson is the assistant coach of the USA side.

Terry Matterson the Castleford coach stripped him of the captaincy when he was sin binned for mouthing at the ref in a game with Warrington Wolves When Sherwin got injured Mcgoldrick switched to play scrum half which affected his form towards the back end of the season.
