List of international goals scored by Pelé
Pelé was a Brazilian football player who represented the Brazil national football team as a forward from 1957 to 1971.[1] He is the all-time top goalscorer for Brazil with 77 international goals, which he scored in 92 appearances. 12 of those goals came during his 14 World Cup appearances, including 4 goals in 1970.[2] Pelé is one of the four players (the others are Uwe Seeler, Miroslav Klose, and Cristiano Ronaldo), that scored in four separate World Cup tournaments.[3][4]
International appearances and goals
Pelé is the joint top scorer of the Brazil national football team with 77 goals in 92 official appearances. His first goal came in his debut game against Argentina, the only goal of Brazil in a 1–2 defeat in Maracanã Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[5] In addition, he scored 18 times in 22 unofficial (not full "A" international) games. This makes a tally of 114 games and 95 goals. He also scored 12 goals in 14 World Cup appearances, including 4 in 1970. In 1970, Pelé was the second player (with just a few minutes of difference from the German Uwe Seeler) that managed to score in four separate World Cup tournaments. The German Miroslav Klose, the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo and the Argentine Lionel Messi have also achieved the feat of scoring at four world cup tournaments.
Pelé is credited with scoring a world record 1,281 goals in 1,363 appearances during a 21-year career, including 77 goals in 92 matches for his country. Pele was selected as Fifa’s Player of the Century in 2000. Pele is the only player to have won the World Cup three times, taking home the trophy in 1958, 1962, and 1970.
