Life is not an easy matter... You cannot live through it without falling into frustration and cynicism unless you have before you a great idea which raises you above personal misery, above weakness, above all kinds of perfidy and baseness.

Thanks for that!

  • Hey! Thanks for that. It'll be in my 2GB+ wikinewsie.org mailbox — mostly unread, so bear with me. I've not been checking it for a long time - except the odd password reset.
I'm not 100% back. I got myself Duh-ed on a spoof website. Hilarious (not!) That prompted the edits. Laughed, rather than inflict the usual "You. So. Stoopid!" self-flagellation on myself. I'm seriously rusty on the original reporting 'sniff test' there; but, I don't think we should say "Fake news" - just call it what it is: Bullshit.
Have to say I'm somewhat stunned - for a project the size of en.wn - to see such a response to me making one or two edits. Going to check the thread on the Water Cooler, as I work through my emails (think weeks, not hours). I'm not yet able to get anything going on an Icelandic VPS . That'll be a couple of months off. If that's what you've emailed about, cool your jets. I have other things needing attention. One of which is setting up my own web site. A big Edinburgh Festival/Blog 'SEO' posting splurge is needed so I get fawkes-that.com set up and SEO-rated. But, I have three local shops selling some of my prints; the that cash will help with the move. Plus what I can blag for an affiliate link to the intended hosting which touts the IMMI as a safe haven. ;)
When it comes to 'rusty', I've been out the loop so long I've not seen if the Visual Editor is still a POS. I do know an ex-lead developer for the WMF thinks so. ;) wikimarkup is coming back to me though. Despite that, I always had to nick code out of previous articles when I'd forgotten helping design them.

Now's a short catchup time – I'm limited in what I can devote to such.

To cover for my 'absence':

Which take for granted, as a wiki, will see few problems with users who joined since I funked out. Except the getting used to a curmudgeonly old git. I just need a gallon of cod liver oil to treat the rust. I am busy elsewhere, mind.
I withdrew from the project due to issues I needed to deal with – and, more importantly, because I could not trust myself reporting the 2014 - how effing long ago? - Scottish Independence Referendum.
As an aside on that, I notice one of my photographs is still on the relevant Wikipedia article. Nice, but shows the ephemeral nature of Wikipedia content. The article used to have several of my images, which was part of the 'slightly fun game' of linking from The Other Place to here. If I consider Wikinews as a "game", it's in the same way as you have to concede life is a "game". I don't describe that as 'whoever dies with the most toys winds'. At least in the case of the Referendum Day I managed a Wikinews article. Archived as the process here intended.
Some of the issues prompting my 'retirement' were health issues; including a housing situation those who know me from pre-2014 likely know about. That didn't didn't help. Nor, as I say, did Scotland losing the Independence vote in 2014. Gutted. For what it appears was three years. s'cuse the swearing, but the British Empire can fuck right off! Bunch of pig-teabagging effete wankspanners who couldn't run a lemonade stand. As far as Scotland is concerned, I'm a bit more confident Scotland won't suffer from the stupefying blood-t'-brain loss that getting a hard-on over the Monarchy seems to induce. (Thanks #BBC, you're blatant propagandists. I didn't always think so. I have peer-reviewd academic reseach to back up that disgust.).
And, off to check the water cooler. For a change, I'm happy to accept replies here. The "do not ping/do not tag" warning is for people who I need to start "Nope, probably not going to fly" conversations with. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:12, 14 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
