R:Century 1911”, in The Century Dictionary [], New York, N.Y.: The Century Co., 1911, →OCLC.

Usage

This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections and on talk pages to cite an online version of William Dwight Whitney and Benjamin E[li] Smith, editors (1911), The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia: With a New Atlas of the World; a Work of General Reference in All Departments of Knowledge in Twelve Volumes, New York, N.Y.: The Century Company, →OCLC.

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |entry= – the name of the entry in the Dictionary. If this parameter is not stated, the name of the Wiktionary entry is used.
  • |alt= – an alternative form of the entry, with wikitext markup if required: see the example below.
  • |url= – if the default URL is not linking to the correct webpage, use this parameter to indicate the URL of the Dictionary webpage to be linked to.
  • |2=, |pos=, or |part of speech= – the part of speech of the entry. By default, the template italicizes the value assigned to the parameter and adds a full stop (period) to the end. To turn off the default formatting for the purpose of specifying a different formatting using wikitext markup and templates, specify |noformat=1 or |noformat=yes.
  • |page= or |pages= – the page number(s) cited. When quoting a range of pages, separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
  • |column= or |columns= – the column number(s) cited. If quoting from both columns, either omit this parameter or separate the first and last column numbers with an en dash, like this: |columns=1–2.
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage quoted from the Dictionary.
  • |nodot= – by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1 or |nodot=yes.
