Mazarrón is a municipality of the Region of Murcia, Spain. Located in the region of Bajo Guadalentín, it borders with the municipalities of Cartagena and Fuente Álamo de Murcia to the east, with those of Alhama de Murcia and Totana to the north, with Lorca to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. It has an area of ​​318.7 km² and a population with more than 36,000 inhabitants, although in the center of Mazarrón, approximately 18,000 live, the rest are in the urban area of ​​Puerto de Mazarrón and in districts such as Bolnuevo. It is located 25 meters above sea level and is 72 km from the capital of the Region, Murcia. The economy is based on agriculture, fishing, and mainly tourism, Mazarron being one of the main tourist centers in the Region of Murcia, reaching more than 130,000 inhabitants in the summer thanks to its beaches. In addition to the capital of the municipality, the population of Puerto de Mazarrón, which concentrates the tourist offer of the municipality stands out, and where the Phoenician ships of Mazarrón were found: the oldest in the world. Tiene una extensión de 318,7 km² y una población con más de 36.000 habitantes, aunque en el núcleo de Mazarrón, viven aproximadamente 18.000, el resto se encuentran en el casco urbano de Puerto de Mazarrón y en pedanías como Bolnuevo. Se encuentra a 25 metros sobre el nivel del mar y dista 72 km de la capital de la Región, Murcia. La economía se basa en la agricultura, en la pesca, y principalmente en el turismo, siendo Mazarrón uno de los principales centros turísticos de la Región de Murcia, llegando a alcanzar más de 130.000 habitantes en la época estival gracias a sus playas. Además de la capital del municipio, destaca la población de Puerto de Mazarrón que concentra la oferta turística del municipio y donde se encontraron los barcos fenicios de Mazarrón: los más antiguos del mundo. En una de las playas del municipio fueron encontrados estos dos barcos.
