During the early days of the IT industry, growth simply required a company to win new clients at regular intervals. But with the industry maturing, the stakes are much higher, and IT services firms are struggling to come up with a playbook to deal with challenges.

The early 1980s was a heady time for Indian IT services companies. Founded in 1945 as a vegetable oil company, Wipro forayed into the IT business in 1980 while NIIT Technologies and Infosys were founded a year later.
