This is a derived work of a presumably non-free photo. De minimus wouldn't apply since the photo is the main feature, and the poster wouldn't meet the "permanent" status requied for freedom of panorama in Belgium. --ghouston (talk) 21:13, 22 December 2019 (UTC) I fail to understand these arguments. Using the same logic, this photo of a poster of J.P Bemba also taken in Brussels, which includes non-free photos, would have to be removed as well. And yet it's been shared here for nigh over ten years, and is used widely across Wikipedia, without eliciting any recrimination or challenge as to its usage on the Commons over ten years. Likewise, this photo, again in Brussels, and this time containing not only a non-permanent poster, but also a commercial logo. Also unchallenged. I find it difficult to understand why panorama rights are of a concern here, when there is a whole album on the Commons devoted to the Brussels Cycling Classic 2014, replete with photos of commercial logos on vehicles (highly non "permanent") as well as official posters of the event. As an aside, we are talking about the image of a journalist who was murdered for free speech here, and her likeness has taken on a meaning of its own in Malta, with protesters carrying that photo and others like it with them in their protest, as a symbol of the 2019 Maltese protest movement. And that poster attached to the doorway of the Maltese embassy to the EU is even more meaningful. Zugraga (talk) 21:55, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Zugraga: It's no surprise that there are other files on Commons with the same problem. They can all be nominated for deletion if desired. Logos on vehicles are permitted on Commons if they are de minimis: they are only incidentally captured in a photo which is showing other things. The significance of the photo itself or how widely its used on Wikipedia isn't going to change anything: there are lots of non-free photos in the world that are also highly significant and could be used widely on Wikipedia, but Commons doesn't host them because it's an archive of free images, not an archive of everything. It would of course be useful if any photo could be made free by printing it on a poster and taking a photo of the poster: but the concept of "derivative works" prevents that. --ghouston (talk) 22:39, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • For consistency, I also nominated the first poster you pointed out at Commons:Deletion requests/File:J.P.BembaPoster.JPG. I'm not sure about the second, since it's a photo of a couple of windows and the poster may be de minimis. It's also looks like a permanent sign, so FoP may apply. --ghouston (talk) 22:45, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
