CANADIANS BUY NEAR COALINGA

ACQUIRE PART OF SECTIONS EIGHT AND SIXTEEN WILL BEGIN ROTARY DRILLING IMMEDIATELY _——— N Associated Pipe Line to Bay Is Ready for Oil — Coalinga.McKittrick Line Will Be Construct. Ed at Once

COALINGA, Jan. 30.- L, Hoffman and associates of Vancouver, B. C, have purchased the northwest quarter of the southwest quarter of 8-21-15 and the vyest half of the southwest quarter of 16-20-15 of A. J. Pollak, a real estate broker of San Francisco.

The price paid for the forty acres in ' section 8 was $750 an acre and they have since refused an offer of $1260 an 'acre. Mr. Hoffman made a trip to the field about three weeks ay., and liked the prospects here so well that he bought ; the second ' parcel for approximately 1600 an acre. This is, farther out on the flat than any other property and will prove up a large acreage. Mr. Hoffman is not new to the oil business, having been a stockholder in the Mascot Oil company for several years. They will start drilling on both properties at once and will use 'notaries tor the llrst part of the hole, finishing Up with a standard outfit. Associated Pipe Is Ready This week the new Associated rifled pipe line from this field to the bay Willi be running oil. I The test of the new pump at the Coalinga station was made Thursday and the results wero eminently satisfactory. Water was pumped to Halfway, * the station situated between Coalinga and Mendota, and a pressure of 800 pounds was maintained on the line. Tie' pump is a new departure in the style of pumps used fur the transportation of oil heretofore, and was designed in accordance with the suggestions and ideas of the Associated Pipe Line company engineers and officials, us the result "i" experience gained by the maintenance of its other rifled pipe lines. E. T. Morris, construction engineer, says the pump worked well and" thus far has d.me all thai «as expected of it. Mr. Morris, who has been mi the pipe line work of tie Asi,date,i for a number of years, is one of the officials largely responsible for the introduction of Hie new triangle expansion pump. Many of the Ideas embodied in its construction are his. Water wil be pumped for several days, as it Is needed for storage and other purposes to points along the upper end of the line. Connections have been made, and when the orders are given everything will be in readiness to send tine oil to th.- bay. The capacity of the new line is 20,00 'barrels a day. McKittrick Line Next 'Work on the Coalinga-McKlttriek ! line will begin soon. The contracts for construction have been let ami Mahoney Bros. & O'Brien, who laid the new ,-,,,, Costa line, will do tic work. , All the pipe has been manufactured : and deliveries are practically completed A large number of carloads are at Huron, Turk and other points ut'thls end of tho line, while a lug consignment is at Olig, in McKittrick, awaiting the beginning of operations. A consignment of seven of the newtriple expansion pumps is on the way, gome for Installation at stations along the upper end of the Port Costa line and others for the Coalinga-McKittrick line. . • '---- , , ' . . Organize New Company ' 11. A. Whitley and P. A. Culberson jr who own the. north half of the northwest quarter of section 32-19-15, the eighty acres just to the north of the Empire, are making preparations for the organization of a. company to develop the holding. A rig will be erected immediately. It is indefinite yet whether the company will be a close i corporation or a small allotment of stock will be placed "ii the market The company has not been incorporated ' It may be called the Republic Oil company, Two 1250-btrrel storage tanks will in' erected on the land Immediately and one on the Empire, a e-hort distance away. Two more rigs will be built at once on the Empire.
