Description
Photograph of two Trackless Trolley in Laurel Canyon, ca.1910-1920. At center, two darkly-colored, rectangular trolleys can be seen. Large metallic rods are visible extending from the top of each trolley car. These rods are seen connecting to two parallel wires seen at the top of the image. Several passengers can be seen sitting within each trolley. The trolley on the left features a single light on its frontal face, while two lights and a small stepladder can be seen on the back of the trolley on the right. Four small wheels connected to two separate axles support the frame of the trolley. Further to the left and right of both trolleys, large trees and vegetation are seen lining the dirt road. In the extreme background, a large mountain covered with vegetation is visible. Description at bottom of image reads: "In 1912 Charles Mann, a Realtor and Richard Shoemaker, an Engineer, introduced there Trackless Trolleys to stimulate land sales in Laurel Canyon, operating from Sunset Blvd., to The Tavern, junction of Lookout Mt. Road. They were discontinued in 1918".
