Ward Hunt
Ward Hunt (1810-1886) was an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. He joined the court in 1872 after a nomination from President Ulysses Grant. Hunt retired on January 27, 1882, and passed away four years later on March 24, 1886. Prior to joining the court, he served as the Commissioner of appeals for the New York Court of Appeals.[1]
Hunt was one of eight justices nominated to the Supreme Court by President Grant, though only five were confirmed. He served during The Chase Court and The Waite Court.[2]
Education
Hunt received an undergraduate degree from Union College in 1828. He received his legal education by reading law.[1]

Hunt was nominated by President Ulysses Grant on December 3, 1872. He was confirmed by the Senate on December 11, 1872, and received commission that same day. Hunt retired on January 27, 1882.[1] He was succeeded to this post by Justice Samuel Blatchford.
