Dan Bongino
Dan Bongino was a 2016 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 19th Congressional District of Florida.[1] Bongino was defeated by Francis Rooney in the Republican primary on August 30, 2016.[2]
Bongino was a 2014 Republican candidate for United States House of Representatives in the 2014 elections. He ran in Maryland's 6th Congressional District.[3] He was defeated by incumbent John Delaney (D) in the general election on November 4, 2014.[4] He won the nomination in the Republican primary on June 24, 2014.[5]
Bongino was also a 2012 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Maryland. He lost to incumbent Ben Cardin on November 6, 2012[6][7]
Education
Bongino received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the City University of New York and his second master's degree from Penn State University.[8]
Career
Bongino began working for the New York Police Department in 1995. He joined the United States Secret Service in 1999. In 2006, Bongino joined the Presidential Protective Division. Bongino also created "The Dan Bongino Show" podcast.[8]

Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Republican. Incumbent Curt Clawson (R) did not seek re-election in 2016. Francis Rooney (R) defeated Robert Neeld (D) and write-in candidates David Byron and Timothy John Rossano in the general election on November 8, 2016. Rooney defeated Chauncey Goss and Dan Bongino in the Republican primary on August 30, 2016.[9][2]

2014
Although it was speculated that Bongino would enter Maryland's gubernatorial race in 2014, he announced on June 2, 2013, that he would run for Maryland's 6th Congressional District seat which was held by incumbent John Delaney.[10] He won the nomination in the Republican primary on June 24, 2014.[5] Dan Bongino lost the general election on November 4, 2014.

Endorsements
U.S. Senator from Utah, Mike Lee (Utah),[11] Representative from Illinois' 8th Congressional District Joe Walsh,[12] Harford County Executive David R. Craig,[13] and Blaine Young, President of the Frederick County Commissioners,[14] have all endorsed Bongino for Senate.
Campaign promises
Bongino promised that if elected to Congress, he will donate half his official salary to charity.[15]
In an August 2014 news release, Bongino also vowed to serve no more than six years, or three terms, and oppose any bill that contains exemptions for the “political class.” He also promised not to go on foreign junkets unless there was a “documented, legitimate purpose.”[15]
2012
Bongino ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. Senate, representing Maryland. Bongino defeated William Capps, Rick Hoover, Joseph Alexander, Robert Broadus, David Jones, Brian Vaeth, Richard Douglas, John Kimble, and Corrogan Vaughn in the Republican primary on April 3, 2012. He was defeated by Ben Cardin in the general election.[6][16]
