An effort to recall Alberto Contreras from his position as the Area 3 representative on the Chualar Union School District board of trustees in California did not go to a vote in 2021.
The recall effort began in May 2021.[1] Contreras was elected to the five-member board in 2018.[1][2]
Recall supporters
The notice of intent to recall said Contreras' lack of leadership compromised students' learning and that he "failed to address discrimination against the Spanish-speaking community," according to the Monterey County Weekly.[1]
Recall opponents
Contreras said the issues listed on the notice of intent to recall were old and had already been resolved. “The group that is pursuing this is a complete disgrace. They should be focused on the kids and the education and not these trivial things,” Contreras said.[1]

To get the recall on the ballot, recall supporters would have had to collect signatures from 30% of registered voters in the school district, an approximate total of 145.[1]
