Carol Ann McFall Hastings OBITUARY

Carol Ann McFall Hastings March 10, 1957- May 22, 2024 Carol Ann McFall Hastings died May 22, 2024, at the home she loved in Santa Rosa, CA with the person she loved most in the world by her side, her wife Mary Hastings. Carol was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma in March 1957. The second child and only daughter to Richard and Peggy McFall. The family moved to Eureka, CA when Carol was 2 years old. Carol grew up in Eureka and graduated from Eureka Senior High School, where she was Senior Class President, in 1975. Carol excelled at school and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in 1981 at UC Berkeley. She also excelled in her career as a Paralegal and Office Manager of a large Bay Area legal firm, gracefully coordinating the opening and operation of five offices in three states. Carol and Mary made their home in Santa Rosa nurtured by the area’s natural beauty and the warmth of a strong, loving community. Carol had a quiet strength, a keen intelligence, and a wonderful sense of humor. She was brave, loyal, and generous. Carol loved her friends, her dogs and her life with Mary. She expressed that love freely and often. Carol was a gift to all who knew her. Carol enjoyed traveling with Mary to some of America’s most beautiful, wild places. They especially enjoyed frequent camping trips in their Airstream on the Sonoma, Mendocino, and Oregon coasts. Carol loved music, art, and classic movies. She delighted in sharing with friends laughter; good food; wine; and special drinks that she created. Carol was a talented artist, a tech wizard and, above all, a great friend and wife. Carol is survived by her beloved wife of 30 years, Mary; their daughter Anna Ogunsola (Yinka) and granddaughters Camilla and Zoe; her sister-in-law Cathy Woolery; and her brother Doug McFall. Carol and Mary are grateful for a special group of loving, caring friends who were there for them through this journey. Carol’s grace and courage will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Carol held strong Buddhist beliefs. Fittingly we share: “The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.” In accordance with Carol’s wishes, services were held privately.
