St. Patrick basketball standout Matthew Krass signs to further his career at Tarleton State University

Monday was a day of celebration at St. Patrick Catholic High School as one of their outstanding athletes signed to further his academic and athletic career.

Fighting Irish standout and Mississippi all-star Matthew Krass has officially put pen to paper to pursue his basketball career at Tarleton State University. The 6 ‘4 combo guard is a force to be reckoned with on the hardwood averaging 28.9 points per game this season and taking home the honor of the MHSAA 3A Region 8 player of the year.

After letting the ink dry, Krass told news 25 that coach Billy Gillispie is a big reason he chose Tarleton state.

“Coach Billy Gillispie is a really great coach with a really great background and he was the only Division I that officially offered me and I’m staying loyal to that and I really want to go see what it’s all about because I believe I can compete and I’m just looking forward to everything really.,” Krass said. “It’s a blessing being able to go play with my brother, but ultimately from a personal stand point this is mainly for me so I’m just excited to go out there and compete and show what I can do at a high level.”

Like he mentioned, the Krass duo will be reunited at Tarleton State as Matt joins his older brother Nick on the Texan basketball team. Congratulations to Matt and the entire Krass family!
