Resident in Sugar Mill Apartment fire has died

A resident of Sugar Mill Apartments who was injured in a fire Tuesday has died.

Gulfport Fire Chief Billy Kelley confirmed that the resident did die as a result of his injuries in the fire. His name has yet been released.

You may recall that the fire department was called out about 10:30 a.m. and the fire was contained to the one unit in building two with a neighboring unit and the unit above suffering heavy smoke damage.

The elderly resident was being helped out of his apartment when firefighters arrived and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
