Jets reveal hot, new, not-so-secret Jersey design

The Winnipeg Jets’ fan forum Friday night quickly turned into a fashion show, with the team’s third jersey as the hot new trend.

Star forwards Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine worked the catwalk for the official unveiling.

The big reveal of the alternate home jersey was a bit anti-climatic, as the design was leaked on the web Thursday. The jersey is bright aviator blue and the chest logo is a stylized “Jets,” similar to a small logo that has recently appeared on players’ helmets.

It is highlighted with the “t” in Jets crossed with the outline of a fighter jet. The phrase “We Are True North” is printed on the inside collar.

The jersey is accented with navy and white striping on the sweater’s sleeves and hem.

The club said the new jersey will be worn for 14 home games during the 2018-19 regular season.

The unveiling was broadcast live on the Jets TV website.

“We always wanted to use the aviator blue. We wanted something really simple. There’s a little tip of the hat to some striping of former Jets teams,” said Mark Chipman, chairman of True North Sports & Entertainment, which owns the NHL club.

“There’s a Finnish (national team) feel to it. (In honour of former Jets) like Hexi Riihiranta (from the WHA days), Teemu (Selanne) and a guy named (Patrik) Laine… maybe a little coincidental, but a cool element.”

He said the Jets will wear their Heritage Classic jerseys from the 2016-17 season once a year.
