I don't think this is an appropriate term for painted Japanese folding screens and sliding doors? They aren't painted on pieces of wood directly as described here but rather on paper that is layered over a segmented wooden lattice. The paper is the surface for the painting while the lattice is structural, unlike a European panel painting. Suggesting instead byōbu for folding screens and fusuma for Japanese painted sliding doors.
