Global HIV, Hepatitis and STIs Programmes
The Department of Global HIV, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections Programmes leads the development and implementation of the global health sector strategy on the elimination of the diseases as public health threats.

Strategies

The WHO Department of Global HIV, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections Programmes (WHO/HHS) develops and oversees implementation of global health sector strategies on HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections. These strategies share a common goal towards elimination of the 3 diseases. “Triple Elimination” is an example of an initiative targeting all 3 diseases.

WHO/HHS develops global evidenced-based guidelines and guidance, while providing technical support to address public health gaps and challenges common to the 3 disease areas. WHO/HHS promotes development of a comprehensive national policy and plan, as well as periodic reviews to ensure that the latest evidence and policy advice is incorporated.

Support to countries is managed in collaboration with many stakeholders, including other WHO departments, affected communities, civil society groups, academic institutions and partner organizations within the United Nations system.
