What's Love Got to Do With It??. . . . Alot!. . You're having trouble in relationships, friendships or at work. You're finding it hard to know how to fix things, and you wonder if the problem is you, your past, or the people around you. You're seeking out support because life has gotten overwhelming or you've shut down. Anxiety or depression maybe peek in here or there and you want real tools to use. You want to feel more confident & fulfilled in relationships, but no one ever taught you that part. You want self-love but don't have a clear vision of who you are.

I work with anxiety, depression, life changes, loss, early trauma, spiritual concerns, and bodily/somatic symptoms of emotional distress.
I offer therapy as a reliable space where you can slow down, really meet your inner world and learn to relate to what you discover there. Your symptoms have a story to tell. They can cause suffering when you don’t understand their language, or what they're asking you to find out about yourself. When given the attention they ask for, your emotions can reconnect you to your instincts and guide you in useful directions. Jungian therapy works to help you face inward towards your imagination, where you can begin to recover and revive what feels dormant, lost, unworthy, or just undiscovered.

I offer an evidenced-based approach with clients suffering from anxiety, depression, perinatal and postpartum distress, trauma, and all of life transitions.
I specialize in treating adults who may be feeling stuck and want to make changes personally and/or professionally. My approach to therapy is practical and positive expressed through honesty, active collaboration, and a little bit of humor. For some clients this means helping to set achievable goals and recognizing their strengths, but for me it always means meeting them where they are at emotionally, mentally, and physically.

I work with children ranging in age from kindergarten through middle school, as well as parents and caregivers. I can help children who are facing challenges around anxiety, life transitions, losses, self-esteem, and relationships with peers and/or family members. I know that children are most effectively treated when their parents are engaged in the treatment process. The degree to which parents are included depends on each child’s needs. I am also happy to provide parent consultation as the primary intervention if a parent is interested in trying that approach instead of individual child therapy.

Anxiety sucks. I get it. It can keep you stuck in an exhausting inner battle of fear and panic. Perhaps you have had a panic attack and worry about having another one. Or maybe you find yourself frequently worrying about your relationship with your partner. Obsessive thoughts might be keeping you up at night and disrupting your ability to focus at work. And you might feel frustrated or embarrassment that you can't get your anxiety under control. You might be trying to cope with your anxiety by staying busy, distracting yourself with technology, or turning to drugs or drinking. The good news is, it does not have to be this way.

Issues that I have experience working with include depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, parenting stress and strategies, and changes in relationships and other life transitions.
Whether this is your first time looking for a therapist or you are coming back to therapy, it can feel hard to find someone you feel you can trust and really click with. Life is hard enough, finding a therapist shouldn't feel impossible, my goal is to make the process as smooth as possible. I have over 15 years of clinical experience and enjoy working with individuals and especially new parents. I hope to work with clients to strengthen relationships, foster change and enhance what might already be working. I have helped clients to learn effective strategies to live more fulfilling and satisfying lives.

At East Bay Center for Anxiety Relief, we work with adults, children, teens, couples, and families. We also facilitate periodic groups focused on communication skills, social skills, anxiety, depression, and working women. We strive for mindful, efficient, and effective therapy. Our clinicians are trained in research-based models such as TEAM-CBT, ACT and Gottman couples/family models. We work a bit differently than more traditional practices. We don’t cram an hour of therapy into 50 minutes. Instead, we provide full 60-, 75-, or 90-minute sessions.

My experience includes working with folx experiencing depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and PTSD/CPTSD, as well as LGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC youth and their families.
Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to read this. Making the decision to start the healing journey can be a tough one, so I truly appreciate your consideration in having me walk alongside you. I support folx in recognizing their own resilience, exploring intersectional identities and sense of self, and navigating life's stressors and changes. Maybe you're experiencing a shift in your life. Maybe there are parts of yourself that you need support with reconciling and integrating. Or maybe you have experienced trauma and are ready to process it. Whatever it is, I'm excited to bear witness to your growth and be part of your journey.

I founded Be Love Community Counseling to provide safe, healing space for people that have been oppressed, marginalized or have an identity outside of the "dominant culture." Historic trauma and past hurts may show up as depression, anxiety, anger management issues, low self-esteem, underachievement, oppositional behaviors etc. You may think that something is wrong with you while what you're experiencing may actually be a result of something that has happened to you or your ancestors. Therapy is empowering as you may increase awareness about what is keeping you from freedom to live the life you desire.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
