Brandon Jones to step down as Sitges town councillor

Sitges Town Councillor for Tourism, Brandon Jones, has decided to give up his position in June for reasons of health.

Jones made the announcement in recent weeks to both his own party (Comuns Verds de Sitges) and colleagues in the Esquerra Republicana (ERC) party and SGI. The resignation was recommended by his doctors after a recent heart attack and two heart operations.

His place will be taken by Xavi Ripoll, third on the voting list of the Comuns party led by Carme Gasulla.

Ripoll has been a major figure on the local team since 2019 and originator of several proposals related to tourism. In fact, he has been working in tourism since his youth and knows the industry very well. Sport is another of his areas of expertise.

Jones will make the formal announcement of his resignation at the next municipal plenary at the end of May, and Ripoll will take his place in the following plenary.

Jones, founder of Gay Sitges Link (now Colors Link) and the Sitges English Theatre Company, was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in 2022 for services to the British Community in Sitges, in the late Queen Elizabeth’s Birthday Honours List.
