The new Sandbox Solana Beach is nearing completion on Highway 101. The coastal mixed use development features residential units, room for retail and restaurants, and office space.

The first tenants have now moved in—as of April there were only three of the 25 one-to-two-bedroom units still available to lease, starting at $6,650. On a recent morning, residents could be spotted out on a second story balcony reading and enjoying a cup of coffee outside with their dog nearby.

The architectural style of the center is modern coastal with a variety of exterior surfaces in teal, gray and brick. The outdoor spaces at Sandbox have been heavily landscaped with trees, planters of grasses, cacti and succulents with ample sitting spots in the interior courtyards near the office spaces.

A funky framed poster out front advertises that Rustic Root will be coming this summer to the corner building on 101 and Dahlia Drive. The restaurant serving American cuisine and an inventive cocktail program also has a stylish outpost in the Gaslamp District.

Other tenants are also in development stages at Sandbox. Big banners announce the coming of CTZN, a tapas bar and restaurant from the owners of La Clochette Cafe & Bakery, a French cafe and bakery in Pacific Beach, which is slated to open in late 2024. One of the retail spaces in the brick building will be Morning Lavender, a women’s boutique founded by wedding photographer and fashion blogger Kim LePham, promising “fresh and feminine finds”.

The project also includes 54,845 square feet of commercial office space with big open floor plans, outdoor workspaces and amenities such as shared e-bikes and surfboard storage.
