* This month marked a milestone in the careers of Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme — it was their 35th anniversary as one of America’s most popular singing duos. On Oct. 6, 1960, they stepped on the stage for the first time as Steve & Eydie, and they’ve spent most of their adult lives doing what they love best: singing. Tonight they’ll take the stage at Easton’s State Theatre.

Both native New Yorkers, Steve & Eydie began their careers as cast members of Steve Allen’s “Tonight Show.” Their recording careers flourished with such hits as “Blame It On The Bossa Nova,” for Eydie, and “Go Away Little Girl” for Steve, among others.

They shared a Grammy for their album, “We’ve Got Us,” and Eydie won a second Grammy for her solo recording of “If He Walked Into My Life.” Steve received a Tony nomination for his Broadway debut as the star of “What Makes Sammy Run.” The couple shared the Broadway stage in the musical comedy-drama, “Golden Rainbow.”

A highlight of their career was the one-year “Diamond Jubilee World Tour” with Frank Sinatra, which played to audiences around the world, culminating with a concert in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Their television special “Steve & Eydie Celebrate Irving Berlin” received seven Emmy Awards; “Our Love is Here to Stay,” their tribute to George and Ira Gershwin, won two more Emmys, and “From This Moment On,” their musical salute to Cole Porter, won them an Award of Excellence from the Film Advisory Board. In May, they received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York.

In conjunction with their 35th anniversary, they will receive the 1995 Society of Singer’s prestigious “Ella” Lifetime Achievement Award in December. Past recipients are Ella Fitzgerald (for whom the award is named), Frank Sinatra, Tony Martin and Peggy Lee.

Tickets for today’s 8 p.m. performance are still available, at $47 and $36.50. Information: 252-3132.
