The Illinois primary election happening Tuesday
Ill. (KWQC) - Illinois’ 2024 primary election takes place Tuesday, with polls opening at 6 a.m.
Although it’s too late to file to vote by mail for the primary election this year, voters in Illinois can still register to vote and vote Tuesday.
Residents seeking to register must:
- Be an American citizen.
- Be 18 years of age or older on election day.
- Live in their surrounding area for at least 30 days before an election.
- Not be serving a prison sentence because of a criminal conviction.
- Not claim the right to vote anywhere else.
If you are already registered to vote at your current address, you will not need to bring a government-issued photo ID with you, but it could be helpful if there are any questions about your information.
If you are registering to vote on the day of the election, or need to make changes to your registration such as a new address or a legally changed name, you can do so, but will need two forms of ID.
Residents may register to vote or change their address at their local city clerk’s office or any library.
