Chris Hemsworth Hunts Cybercriminals in First Trailer for 'Blackhat'

Blackhat

"This isn't about money, this isn't about politics." It's been five years since we've gotten a film from Michael Mann, and that was the somewhat disappointing gangster thriller Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp. But now Mann is back with the contemporary thriller Blackhat, set in the timely and relevant world of cybercrime. Chris Hemsworth leads the film as a brilliant convict brought out of prison to help track down a vicious hacker with seemingly no political or financial agenda, who is just willing to completely cripple the world's banking system. There's pretty some cool shots, and it definitely looks like a Michael Mann film, but I'm not entirely sold on the story just yet. Seems a little too familiar. Watch now!

Here's the first trailer for Michael Mann's Blackhat, originally from Apple:

Blackhat is directed by Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral, Public Enemies, Miami Vice, The Insider) who co-wrote the script with first-time screenwriter Morgan Davis Foehl. Set within the world of global cybercrime, the film follows a furloughed convict and his American and Chinese partners as they hunt a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta. Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Rush) leads the film with a cast that also includes Viola Davis, Tang Wei and Wang Leehom. Universal Pictures sends the Legendary Pictures production to theaters early next year on January 16th.

Maybe Kevin Smith couldn't complete the handstand pushup in the audition.

She even mentions the big hammer at 1.18. Anyways, Van Wageningen is in this, that's good news.

so youre saying that none of the good hackers, like in Anonymous are well trained and tall? Seems legit..or.. no thats right - we are all stereotypes. 😀

This looks interesting, but I fear it'll be yet another bad hacker movie 🙁

Leehom in his 1st western movie, well done. Looking forward more serious roles like this from him.

Really like the tone this sets. Looks interesting, some great shots. No doubt it'll look fantastic, just hope the story will pull through and be great as well.

Oh boy. Careful Mr. Mann - hacking genre is a minefield full of films that took waaay too much artistic license in lieu of realistic portrayals of that particular crime.

I like Mann's work, but this looks pretty generic...

This looks great! Haha...I completely forgot about Michael Mann. Surprised his name isn't in the headline.

I love Hemsworth, but this just isn't his bag. Will it be as bad as Hugh Jackmans hacker portrayal in the movie Swordfish? No. But it won't be very good, either.

I love the grit feel to Mann's films. I'm onboard with this and Hemsworth accent is much better than expected. LET'S GO TO THE MOVIES!!

it's Michael Mann. Which means, it will be intense enough, at least, if it fails to be good...
