Boxing divisional rankings: Zayas and 'Shu Shu' Carrington remain undefeated, keep impressing

ESPN's divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. They will change often, based on recent results and performances. Rankings are based on what a fighter has accomplished in the weight division in which he is ranked. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.

Fighters who haven't competed in the past 12 months -- and don't have a fight scheduled -- will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to re-enter the rankings after his next bout.

Saturday at The Theater inside Madison Square Garden in New York, junior middleweight Xander Zayas delivered another impressive performance in a unanimous-decision victory over veteran Patrick Teixeira.

Zayas (19-0, 12 KOs), of San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a 21-year-old orthodox fighter with power and speed. He broke down Teixeira round by round with accurate body punches and timed combinations to earn a unanimous decision win, with scorecards of 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91 from the judges. With the victory, Zayas solidifies his spot in the top 10 at 154 pounds.

"He was tough. He knew how to survive in there," Zayas said after the fight. "It was sometimes difficult to find the body, but with the experience, he hid it. I tried to land the hook, and he was ducking underneath. I feel like it was a tough test, but I passed it with flying colors."

Also on the card, featherweight Bruce "Shu Shu" Carrington scored his fifth stoppage win in his last six fights with an eighth-round TKO of late replacement Brayan De Gracia.

With undisputed featherweight champion Naoya Inoue watching from ringside, Carrington (12-0, 8 KOs), of Brooklyn, New York dropped Garcia twice before stopping him in the last seconds of Round 8 after a flurry of punches forced referee Eric Dali to stop the bout at 2:56.

At 27, Carrington is close to getting bigger fights this year in a 126-pound division full of talent. He retains his No. 9 spot at featherweight.

"There are some things I could've done more. There are some things I could've done better on the defensive end," Carrington said about his performance. "He came to fight. He's really strong. His knockout ratio shows the power is there, but you know me, I have a lot of experience and know how to get around that, break my opponent down, and do what I do. And that's how we got the victory."

On Friday, Oscar Collazo retained his WBO strawweight title with a one-sided unanimous decision over Gerardo Zapata at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

Collazo (10-0, 7 KOs), of Villalba, Puerto Rico, won by scorecards of 119-109, 119-109 and 117-110. It was Collazo's thrid defense of the belt he won in a seventh-round TKO against Melvin Jerusalem in May 2023. Collazo stays at No. 2 in the 105-pound division.

Rankings are determined by Mike Coppinger, Nick Parkinson, Damian Delgado Averhoff and Andres Ferrari. They are updated weekly on Tuesdays.
