Tinker Hatfield, widely known for his legendary sneaker designs, created the Air Jordan 3 in 1988. It was Hatfield's first design for the Jordan franchise. He received direction from Michael Jordan concerning the structure of the shoes. Specifically, Michael wanted something sleeker and lighter than models from prior editions. Tinker Hatfield used his ingenuity to bring this to life.

A pale shade of pink adorns the Jumpman on the tongue, midsole area, and eyelets. Hatfield chose Dark Mocha for the toe, heel, eyestays, outsole, and the Jumpman on the heel.

These sneakers debuted in May 2022 and were inspired by the 2001 Air Jordan 3 Mocha. They are referred to as Neapolitan because the colorway resembles ice cream. Like many other styles in the Jordan 3 lineup, this model has a visible Air unit.
