Nike's Air Jordan shoes have been making history and breaking sales records since 1985.

Whether you're looking for basketball sneakers or skateboarding shoes, Jordan's long history means there are plenty of all-black Jordan shoes on eBay for sneakerheads to choose from.

A Brief History of Air Jordans

In 1985, two things put basketball shoes on the map. The first was Michael Jordan's signing to the Chicago Bulls as the third pick in that year's draft. The second, directly related to the first, was the release of the first Air Jordan 1 sneaker.

Although it seems baffling today, Jordan initially didn't want to sign with Nike at all since they primarily made running shoes. The line was a bit of a gamble for Nike as well since at the time Jordan was a relatively unknown rookie. To start with, Nike had modest hopes for the new sneakers, hoping to sell $3 million worth of Air Jordans in the four years of the contract. Instead, they sold $126 million in the first year alone.

Since the Jordan 1's first release, Nike has continually tweaked this iconic sneaker line, releasing a new numbered version nearly every year. The first update, the Jordan 2, came out in 1986, and since then Nike has released more than 35 unique Air Jordan designs. Nike has also released retro editions of its most popular Jordans, including the Jordan 1 and the Jordan 4.

The First All-Black Air Jordan

It's hard to pin down exactly which Jordan sneaker was the first all-black Jordan. Air Jordan sneakers from the 80s and 90s generally tended to have eye-catching colorways that paired black with brighter colors like red or blue. Some early Jordans came close to all-black colorways with dark grays, but even these tended to have lighter tones on their outsoles. A good candidate for the earliest all-black Jordan is 1999's Air Jordan 15, which came in a mostly black colorway. However, even this shoe featured varsity red on the heel, outsole, and insole.

Consumers looking for an all-black Jordan sneaker for women had longer to wait. Women's basketball wasn't an officially recognized sport until relatively late, in 1996. Likewise, Nike didn't start releasing Air Jordan sneakers made purposefully for women until 1998. The first all-black women's Jordan came much later, with the 2021 Jordan 1 Acclimate Triple Black Retro.

All Black Jordan Shoes Today

Nike has continued to release black Jordan sneakers for men and women in nearly every numbered Jordan model.

Jordan 1 Retro OG Black

Although its name calls back to the original Jordan 1s, this high all-black Jordan 1 is a retro edition from 2017. The base, paneling, Swoosh, and nearly every other element of the sneaker is black. The only splash of color is the tongue, which features the Nike Air logo in university red.

Jordan 1 Retro Triple Black Mid

This colorway is one of the most classic all-black Jordan shoes out there. Not only the base and paneling, but all other elements of the shoe are black. This colorway is also available in a Jordan 1 Low.

Jordan 12 Retro Winter Black

The 2018 Jordan 12 Retro Winter Black is an all-black Jordan 12. The smooth toe and ruffled heel create a pleasing contrast, while the patterning on the midsole and outsole also complement one another. The word Jumpman is embossed in black on the midsole, while the heel features a Jumpman logo, the name Jordan, and the number 23, also all in black.

Jordan 1 Mid SE Triple Black Patent

This 2018 Jordan 1 Retro Mid uses patent leather to make a statement. The base, paneling, upper, and Swoosh are all smooth, shiny, black patent leather. The tongue, collar, insole, and sole of this Jordan are also black.

Jordan 1 Mid Black Snakeskin

The 2021 Jordan 1 Mid Black Snakeskin brings some texture to this list of all-black Jordan shoes. The colorway is entirely black, while almost the entire sneaker is textured in a snakeskin pattern, including the Swoosh. The white Jumpman logo on the tongue showcases and highlights all the black elsewhere on the shoe.

Jordan 6 Rings Winterized Black

This 2019 Jordan 6 Retro features a smooth black base with a mesh black upper. The "rings" in the colorway's name refer to the lace design and the prominent heel tab, while the Jumpman logo on the tongue is also contained in a ring. This Jordan 6 is one of the more unusual all-black Jordan shoes out there.

Black Cat Jordans

One colorway the Jordan brand has returned to multiple times is the Black Cat Jordan. This colorway is named after one of Michael Jordan's nicknames during his NBA career and can be found in multiple Air Jordan lines, from the Jordan 4 all the way up to the Jordan 34. Although not all the Black Cat Jordans are all-black Jordan shoes, several don't feature any other colors.

Jordan 4 Retro Black Cat

The 2020 Jordan 4 Retro Black Cat is an all-black Jordan 4 Retro. The shoe features a black base with black mesh and black plastic lace locks. The midsole and outsole are also black, along with all other elements of the shoe. This sneaker is a retro edition of a 2006 Jordan 4 and marked the first time since that earlier date a Black Cat colorway was released.

Jordan 4 Retro Golf Black Cat Pony Hair

This 2021 release brings the Black Cat treatment to the Jordan 4 Golf. Like the regular Jordan 4 Black Cat, it's an all-black colorway. The removable cleats are also black on this golf shoe.

Jordan 13 Retro Black Cat

The 2017 Jordan 13 Retro Black Cat features a black base with a textured black panel that covers nearly the entire upper part of the shoe. The sneaker has the Jordan 13's signature bulky outsole, while a reflective anthracite logo on the outer heel adds the only non-black highlight to this shoe.

Jordan 34 Black Cat

One of the most recent numbered all-black Jordan shoes, the Jordan 34 Black Cat, was released in late 2020. This shoe features a see-through black mesh base with strong upward elements running along the side of the laces. All parts of the shoe are black, even the cutaways that appear at the toe of the shoe and between the midsole and outsole.

Collaborations

Nike releases lots of collaborations with other brands, as well as with artists, musicians, and other celebrities. It should be no surprise that some of these collaborative basketball shoes are all-black Jordan shoes.

Jordan 4 Retro KAWS Black

This 2017 Jordan was the second Air Jordan 4 Retro ever to be released, making it a high-demand item. A collaboration with artist KAWS, the sneaker features an all-black colorway with a translucent outsole.

OVO x Air Jordan 10 Retro Black

This all-black Jordan 10 is a collaboration with OVO, the lifestyle and clothing company owned by rapper Drake. The shoe features a black leather base and paneling, a black midsole, and a translucent outsole. The sneaker's laces, tongue, heel, collar, and insole are also black. Flecks of gold decorate the shoe throughout.
