Kohler creates installations informed by flowing water at Milan Design Week 2024

Promotion: bathroom brand Kohler teamed up with designer Samuel Ross and design studio Yabu Pushelberg to create two installations that display the brand's latest products at this year's Milan Design Week.

A Kohler product booth designed by Yabu Pushelberg and an installation named Terminal 02, created by Ross' industrial design studio SR_A, both featured elements informed by flowing water.

Industrial pipes were laid out at the Palazzo del Senato to evoke "ideas of flow and control, alongside discovery and play"

Taking place at Fuorisalone, Terminal 02 was designed to showcase the launch of Formation 02, a limited edition smart toilet also designed by Ross (pictured at the top of the article).

Described by Kohler as having a brutalist silhouette, Formation 02 has an asymmetric shape with textured surfaces made from orange-rendered composite resin.

Industrial pipes were set between grand pillars at the Palazzo del Senato to form a maze-like installation that led visitors to the toilet.

The idea behind the installation was to combine elements of natural landscape with industrial and scale engineering.

For its product booth at Salone del Mobile, Kohler Company presented designs from its brands Kohler, Kallista, Kast and Klafs, working with Yabu Pushelberg to create a space that aimed to combine art, design, technology and wellbeing.

Textured facades, designed to bring to mind moving water, enclosed curved spaces that displayed bathroom fittings and fixtures.

The pipes also were intended to communicate water in motion, according to the company. Visitors followed the various pipes, which had contrasting shapes and textures.

Behind the eye-catching installation were Kohler's products, ranging from faucets, bathtubs, futuristic showers and saunas.

As the first display booth designed by Yabu Pushelberg in Milan, the studio worked closely with Kohler to produce a design that sought to combine luxurious, cutting-edge design with well-being.

Well-being, combined with luxury, purpose and innovation were themes the company was eager to emphasise with both installations.

Among the products on display were the Anthem + digital showering system from Kohler, the S11 free-standing sauna by Klafs, and Kohler's concept smart toilet, Numi 2.0, which features integrated electronic ink to create colourful, customisable patterns on its surfaces.
