I'm reading this again since I've decided to have a scene in my novel-in-progress where Nixon and 2 of my fictional characters, and perhaps White himself, watch the documentary in the White House screening room *** excellent portrayal of what Americans ...more |

Like all of Dalgleish's books, the plot is complicated and exciting ... in this book, however, I noticed something very strange which has nothing to do with plot and everything to do with sentence structure ... the use of commas is bizarre, as if the ...more | |

“... let us not be blind to our differences, but let us also direct attention to our common interests and the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children’s future. And we are all mortal." - President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (June 10th, 1963)”

thanks. We ordered "Bully Pulpit."
I appreciate your remarks about my reading interests. It's..."
I have long believed it is perfectly ok to stop reading if you're not liking a book. If the first 100 pages doesn't grab you, it is very unlikely that the rest of the book will.
I appreciate your remarks about my reading interests. It's a funny thing to me, the difference having an electronic reader makes in how I read. I've always been a big reader, since childhood, spending lots of time in the library. Hardly ever would just quit reading a book because I didn't like it. Then my sis gave me a Nook. Now I download books from the library, purchase books, borrow books, electronically; if a book doesn't grab me pretty quickly, I'll just delete it and move on to the next. The electronic world has also opened me up to books I would never have searched out before, like the WWII saga "Unbroken" and Tony Danza's book about being a high school teacher. So I do see it as a positive thing, with the major drawback being that my Nook is much heavier than a paperback when it strikes me in the nose as I drift asleep....
Looking forward to following your trail through the literary landscape. Lead on, McDuff!
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I hope you enjoy my novels.
I have added "The Pope's Conspiracy" and "The Heretice" to my want to read list and my break my rule limiting the number of books I buy in one month as they are so enticing!
Historical fiction may be my favorite genre, but I fear being overly committed as there are just too many books in to many other genres to have just one favorite.
Regardless, I enjoy reading your reviews, and reading about your want to reads.

Thank you for buying "An Obsolete Honor." I'll be interested in your comments/review. You have set yourself a difficult -- but immensely important task -- in trying to understand/explain the appeal of an ideology that is the antithesis of all we value today. It's easy to slip into clichés.
I was also struck by your interest in Medieval Spain. I'm currently working on a book that describes the end of the Christian kingdoms in the Holy Land. Also a difficult period....
Anyway, thanks again for the friend request and the interest in my book.
