Yeah, probably second weakest after Wales' group. BTW, why isn't anyone talking about Belgium? Since the knockout stage started I haven't heard a single person say they could win this thing , despite them winding-up in the weaker half of the bracket.
There were 6 groups and we are in the top 3. I can't comment on whether Belgium are playing well or poorly because I haven't watched them. They look good on paper.
I don't think you can say just because such-and-such group sends 2 teams to the QFs that its one of the strongest group. A lot of that has to do with the luck of the draw. If Spain got to play Iceland in the R16 instead of Italy, I'm thinking the final 8 would look a bit different right now (with all due respect to Iceland). Its also too early to compare anyway. If one group only sends 2 teams to the KO stage, and only 1 team gets to the QF but that team goes all the way to the final, while another group sends 3 teams to the KO stage and all 3 get blown-away in the R16 or QF by 3 or 4 goals each, I don't see why the latter group would automatically be stronger.
Hope we get better matches than Pol-Por the rest of the way. I fell asleep around the 68th minute, and woke up to watch the extra time, which was no better. I mostly blame Poland, but Portugal was pretty dreadful as well. What has happened to Ronaldo? It is painful to watch him flailing out there, one miss after another.
Sad to say, the quarters have been quite dreary. Wales the only side willing to try some things outside their comfort zone. Germany-Italy today: hardly any shots on goal, punctuated by an absurd handball, and then perhaps the worst penalty shootout ever?
