Estaduais are over. Brasileirão starting this coming weekend. Realistically only 3 title contenders. Atlético and Palmeiras coming in on a high and Flamengo in crisis mode after getting shook in the Carioca final. Surprises happen ... but I just can't see anybody else having a shot.
As a Flamengo fan, it pains me to say, but I see them as third right now. Of course, they have only themselves to blame as they can't give a coach time to work, whether the cause is management's impatience or the players' attitude. I think Palmeiras it the best on any given day, but the lack of a standout center forward might prevent them from winning the league. I'll wait a little more before I vote. Who knows, Flamengo might panic fire the coach and hire JJ all of a sudden... you never know with them. (For the record, that would make me move Flamengo way down.)
Yep. Not having a consistent goal scorer hurts us in the Brasileirão. We are built for Cup competitions. I think we have a chance if we have a low point champion ... not like Atletico and Flamengo recently. As for Flamengo, it does seem that some of the shit that has happened is unsustainable with Sousa. Gabigol apparently told him at HT that they don't need a coach and they can figure things out by themselves. Feels like player sabotage is going on.
This linha do tempo thing to show the match time is probably the dumbest "innovation" I've seen in a while. What an absolute fail. Wonder how long that's gonna last. Somebody should get fired.
Honestly, if I have to pick someone right now, I'm picking Palmeiras. Mostly cause of Abel. I think they will get a center-forward, whether that is what makes the difference or not will depend on who is available and the timing. Flamengo match just started (and they gave up an early goal) and Palmeiras play later today. 38 matches, once or twice a week until November 13 (WC starts Nov 21), plus anywhere from 8 to 20 or more additional matches in Libertadores and Copa do Brasil for the big clubs. I made a Cartola team for the first team in as long as I remember (free version). We'll see if I can stay interested throughout the year.
That angle was not convincing at all... neither is Flamengo's performance, but that's not surprising considering the current form.
Atletico-GO are a decent team (finished 9th last season)... so not the easiest of openers specially away. So this struggle given Flamengo's situation is not surprising.
We have our target. #FreePedro e deixa ele ser feliz ... Saretta is a great interview BTW. Even if you're not a tennis fan. Has a crazy story in a bar in Buenos Aires @ 1:31:00 into the interview. Long but worth the listen. EDIT: had the time stamp wrong initially. Fixed it
Sure you want him after today's match? To be fair he came closer than Gabi to scoring, but he really should have done better with his two chances. The first one, credit to the keeper for getting a finger on it, but it was also a good example of why some people don't rate Pedro - he took forever to get that shot off, you just don't get that much time to adjust your feet in high intensity games. Second one, he was all alone and headed it out from 8 yards away or so. Bruno Henrique's goal, on the other hand, brilliant header. So much wrong with Flamengo, the organization, makes it hard to criticize the team when you know everything is a mess.
I think a lot of people were definitely overrating him for sure. I certainly wouldn't break the bank for him. But it's also tough for a striker to show service when he can't get regular minutes. But given our options up front, I think he would be a good upgrade. Rony is pretty bad at finishing. Only thing I'd be concerned I guess is that Rony hustles like crazy.
A few weeks ago La Liga (Spain) had a meeting with many executives from clubs in Brazil to talk about organizing a new league away from CBF where the clubs control it. Ricardo Fort said in a podcast today that there will be some news coming out in the next few weeks. It will be interesting to see if the clubs can put their differences aside for the good of a new league. Because nowadays, every club only cares about their own tail.
Feeling confident ? I imagine you will come with "sangue no olho" tonight ... Just the 3rd round of the league, but I imagine the fans will make it feel like a final. @Mengão86 @Ombak @IVO !
Mixed feelings. Palmeiras has had some hiccups in the Brasileirão and Fla has found some better form, but nothing that necessarily makes me feel really confident about anything. Winning tonight is not going to avenge anything. It would be a good sign that maybe things are starting to turn around, but it won’t undo losing last year’s Libertadores finals. Good luck!
yeah, unpredictable game but I'd put you guys as favorites. We need it more on the table right now. 1 point after 3 games is gonna be bad. The 2 first games really hurt us. And we have Corinthians coming up.
We are making ER look like Maradona ... If Tite came to see Veiga, all he is seeing is ER. Even 1st half ... but somehow, we forget how to make simple passes in the 2nd half.
This is some shitty behavior from JJ ... unsettling a current coach. What do you think ? @Mengão86 Quero voltar, sim. Mas não depende só de mim. Posso esperar até pelo menos o dia 20. Depois disso, tenho que decidir minha vida."...
I agree. Not to excuse what JJ did, but some, especially Polish fans, thought Paulo Sousa committed something just as bad with the Polish FA. Having said all that, I would prefer to have JJ. Call me a “viúva” all you want, but I don’t believe we will reach a consistent level of play to dethrone Palmeiras as a favorite for the Libertadores. JJ demonstrated that consistency in 2019 across all competitions. It isn’t all Paulo Sousa’s fault to be fair. However, he does have his fair share of blame with all the formation tinkering (started with 3 CBs), playing certain players out of position and potential lack of control of the locker room. That is another area JJ thrived in, but winning of course helps with that.
The worst person in this whole thing isn't Jorge Jesus, though he's bad enough, it's Renato Maurício Prado. He's a more old school reporter - in the sense that he doesn't really analyze the sport, he's just a glorified fan who rants after games but happens to do it professionally. His whole article is pathetic, framing the statements around last night's game against Talleres picking moments to use to introduce JJ statements, like when Arão scores a pretty bad own goal, he then inserts JJ's statement that he wouldn't use Arão as a central defender - as if Arão hasn't played that position well ever before. It's just the RMP doesn't like it, so he thinks it's bad. RMP should be shunned for this piece. God knows why his editor thought it was a good idea to publish it.
If I was a Flamengo fan I'd want him back too. And I get it that he is clearing the air up because the club said it was JJ that didn't show any interest in returning. But when he sets a date for a proposal, that goes too far IMO. Not sure what his goal is with that statement because he is throwing Flamengo's front office under the bus. Does he not think that's not gonna piss them off ? I don't see that improving his chances of them bringing him back. He is throwing the whole fan base against them.
The Front Office sort of threw him under the bus when they tried to sign him when he was still under contract with Benfica. They basically made it sound like JJ could negotiate his release and sign with them. The FO also gave him an ultimatum as if we were in a rush to get a coach. I highly doubt we will sign JJ because of the FO. I think the FO soured on him after they failed to sign him earlier. I think our FO has too much pride and arrogance to dump Paulo and sign him.
