En la novena carta de La columna y el fundamento de la verdad, Pável Florenski invita al lector a meditar sobre el potencial antropológico de la mística del corazón en oposición a las místicas de la cabeza y el vientre que provocan en el hombre una experiencia de la vida pobre y distorsionada. A diferencia de éstas y en una de sus figuras más altas que surge en el ámbito de la ascética cristiana, la mística del corazón apunta a la integración de la persona, a una transfiguración de su percepción por la que entra en comunión con una frecuencia de lo real que experimenta como una suerte de entrada al Paraíso. El pensamiento de Florenski se puede leer como un desafío al estilo de relación que nos impone la cultura contemporánea emparentada con aquellas otras dos místicas por su lógica centrada en la voluntad de control, la maximización de la eficacia instrumental, la aceleración, el bombardeo de estímulos, la dispersión, la inclinación al consumo que favorece la degradación de la vida humana, el aislamiento y la pérdida de entusiasmo por la existencia.

The Philosophy of the Self in Muhammad Iqbal2022 •
Muhammad Iqbal sees each person as the “self” with an independent identity, and God as the “Absolute Self”. The human experience of the self is a constantly changing experience. This change develops around a center and eventually forms an organic unity. The independence of the self does not mean that it is closed to other-selves. It is wrong to see the essence of the self as an unchanging substance or to conceive it as an unstable flow. According to Iqbal, the real personality of man is not a "thing" but an "action", a "sum of behaviors". The human being at the highest level of self-consciousness is the only being among all creatures capable of consciously participating in the creative life of the Creator.

In den Bildmedien religiöser Frauengemeinschaften der Frühen Neuzeit war das Herz von besonderer Bedeutung. Maria Schaller analysiert Porträts und bildtragende Schmuckstücke, die im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert in katholischen Nonnenklöstern und protestantischen Damenstiften entstanden sind und Vorstellungen wie die Einwohnung, das Einprägen oder die Einschreibung des Göttlichen in das menschliche Herz thematisieren. Untersucht werden Rückgriffe auf die Herzvisionen spätmittelalterlicher Mystiker*innen, aber auch bemerkenswerte Neusemantisierungen wie die Konstruktion der Genealogie einer „ewigen Herzenswunde“. Im Zentrum steht die Frage, inwiefern die präsentierten Körperbilder und Imaginationen des Herzens Aushandlungsprozesse im Spannungsfeld von Konfession, Stand und Geschlecht widerspiegeln. // The heart had a key position in the visual media of religious women’s communities in the early modern era. Maria Schaller analyzes portraits and image-bearing jewelry created in Catholic nunneries and Protestant women’s convents during the 17th and 18th centuries; these address ideas such as the indwelling, imprinting, or inscribing of the divine in the human heart. This study examines their recourse to the heart visions of late medieval mystics, but also to remarkable new semanticizations such as constructing the genealogy of an ‘eternal wound of the heart’. The primary question is how far the body images and imaginaries of the heart presented here reflect mediation processes in the field of tension between denomination, class, and gender.
How should studies that analyze the historical relationship between animals and technology incorporate more-than-human perspectives and multispecies approaches that have been established in Science and Technology Studies and Human Animal Studies? What can the history of technology contribute to the methodological and theoretical basis of studies of animals and technology in other disciplines? Which stories about animals and technology do we wish to write in the Anthropocene? From a variety of disciplinary angles, the workshop seeks to investigate theoretical approaches and case studies in order to trace new perspectives on historical relations between animals and technology.
