Pinocchio Dickson Kindergarten - 'Wheels Day"

For the last few years, Henry, a young CPA client from Canberra, has taken part in CPA fundraising events with the support of his day-care friends and staff at Pinocchio Early Learning Centre.

Last month Henry’s day-care took their support of CPA to a new level with the ‘wheelsday’ initiative, turning the centre into an accessible track for all the kids to wheel, scoot and ride – with Henry proudly taking part on his walker.

Incredibly, more than $11,000 was raised for CP research, more than double their fundraising target!

As well as vital fundraising, the day raised awareness of CP. Thanks to Henry’s family and the Pinocchio Dickson team for raising vital funds for cerebral palsy research – and for bringing a smile to our faces. It’s never too early to have meaningful conversations about disability inclusion, and Henry’s friends are a brilliant example of this.

The Donovan Effect - "Opportunity Link Day"

Lauris Donovan, who has mild ataxic cerebral palsy, had a wonderful idea to create 'Opportunity Link Day', a round of rugby league that encourages people of all abilities to get involved with local sports teams whilst also raising money for charity. On the day, people with varied abilities participated in a range of activities, including presenting jerseys, leading out teams, supporting raffles, and simply enjoying the footy.

As a person with a disability, Lauris knows the hardship of playing traditional sports, but has found that sport brings exceptional opportunities and creates meaningful relationships. Her footy club, Lakes United Seagulls, has always welcomed Lauris with open arms and embraced her differences - showing her that everyone is capable of bonding despite age, gender, ability or disability. This inspired Lauris to create ’Opportunity Link Day’, a chance to celebrate diversity and unite all through the power of sport.

The day raised an incredible $7000, which will support services to help people with cerebral palsy lead independent and inclusive lives.
