I have friends/relatives in both places but just haven't found the right fit yet so am now looking at parts of Florida and RI. I like RI because it still has a fair amount of historical architecture, but even old dumpy Colonials/Victorians are out of my price range unless they are in towns that are too small to provide decent services (medical mostly) and cultural amenities. Let me know if you find any of those 55+ apartment communities in RI. I would also be interested.
I haven't been to RI for many years but want to check it out in person in the near future. I went out to the Berkshires last fall and it was lovely and real estate was not too expensive but thought it might feel isolating since I'd be alone. Have you considered the senior apartments that are partly subsidized (either for now or when you're a little older? Some of them can be nice (some have long waiting lists) but they are affordable and provide some community aspects. Anyway...it's a challenge to find something appealing and affordable.

I think these are nice and reasonably priced but they probably don't have openings (?). Maybe a waiting list?

That's exactly what I'd like...probably hard to get into though. I'm 60 now but am going to start applying to places when I reach 62. Some places have a lower age limit I think.

Sure. It will be a small house on a small lot and it will need some TLC but you can buy a house in Dartmouth for $200k; or a house priced so it can be made habitable for $200K. You're not going to get walkable to Padanaram Village for that price unless the house is a wreck but you can find them elsewhere in town if you're patient and shop carefully. With the sub-$10 mil rate, property taxes will be about $1,900.

Here's Zillow for Dartmouth with homes sold and a filter set to $200K max

The same is true of Westport. You're going to be searching for the occasional small houses that come up for sale. It's going to be in the northern part of town, not Westport Point but they certainly exist. Here's the same filter set for Westport

Here's a ranch that sold with a failed septic system for $175K last summer. You'd have to shell out $15K to $20K for a mound septic system but you're still sub-$200K.
