I always want to support more rail transit, but does this make my trip from TF Green longer?

Pawtucket would be all over my radar with a rail stop.

Commuter Rail isn't always the catalyst for redevelopment that rapid transit is since headways are longer and fares are more expensive. However I think Pawtucket and Central Falls would significantly benefit from a station. There's always been a ton of potential in the area, especially downtown Pawtucket. This will help the area realize that potential.

Yes, by three minutes.

Especially since the site is surrounded by mills that have already started being converted to residential. The station is practically part of the Union Wadding complex.

Pawtucket does have sort of a rail connection now with the #1 and 35 buses going to the South Attleboro station, but the scheduling leaves a lot to be desired, particularly in the evening.

Is this the station to be rehabbed? It was once a grand old station. Or torn down? Not sure if this is the right site.

The old station is just going to stay there. The proposed station site is about a half mile railroad south, at the end of Pine Street. There's a community meeting next Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Pawtucket Visitors Center.

The S Attleboro stop is right on the line, and accessible to that whole part of Pawtucket. They just need to build more parking there, maybe a garage. DT Pawtucket, is, well I'm sorry to say but: It's a DUMP. For gentrification to happen, there has to be a selling point or something attractive about the area. Between the construction of I 95 and other failed urban renewal, there is almost nothing left to salvage. That is why gentrification hasn't happened yet, and probably never will. It will never be a Lowell.

As for the station, I'm not for anything that will increase trip times on an already too long journey. Maybe if they add faster electric locomotives and make it like the MARC between DC and Baltimore, it would make sense. But the Commuter Rail as it is is overpriced, inefficient and SLOW. That is probably the fastest line in the system too, which is right now a selling point for places like Providence, Attleboro, Mansfield and Sharon (as opposed to towns like Westborough which are closer to Boston and significantly more expensive, yet a longer ride by train). Adding new stops on the PVD line would diminish that advantage.

I think so as well- there are still a lot of existing buildings in downtown Pawtucket that could be converted to lofts or condos. I know there are already a few large old mills that have been condos for some time.
