Hello,
My husband and I are hoping to buy our first home in the next 12-18 months and are trying to narrow down our list of towns to consider. We have two young children, so schools are important to us, but I'd like to consider options beyond the usual Barrington and EG.
We work in Smithfield and Providence and would like to stick with a relatively painless commute. Mainly, we'd like to find a neighborhood with a real "community feel" where neighbors know each other. Housing budget is $300-$350k, and we're OK with a fairly modest house.
Any suggestions? I'd love town and even specific neighborhoods to consider.
Thank you!!

Cumberland, Lincoln, Smithfield, No. Smithfield -- family friendly areas, good schools, and community feel in all 3. Easy highway access to Rt. 295, Rt. 146, Rt. 95. Best wishes.
Lincoln is probably the nicest out of them, but like all those towns it has its rough spots to avoid (ie. Manville). Then probably Cumberland, Smithfield and North Smithfield in that order.
Within Smithfield, Greenville is a nice area. Good community feel there, and convenient to everything.

Ooops yes, all 4. I added No. Smithfield quickly and didn't change the #. Everything is so close together it kinda blends, and I'm not used to thinking in terms of small state anymore I suppose. Greenville doesn't really have a 'center' does it? Either does No. Smithfield.
Lots of small cute 'towns', Chepachet and Scituate are 'cute' too.

Not really. It's more of a crossroads with a couple churches, library, few stores...
