Well, what's considered a long commute to you? That's all relative. The average commute in Phoenix is 30 minutes and that's what your commute would be during NON rush hour traffic. And I stress "not the rush hour"

And yes, the panhandlers are still here..lol...

I haven't been here all that long, but I've discovered the opposite to be true. Later has less traffic - after 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. or later. Your rush hour is like Dallas - the afternoon kicks off around 2:45-3:00 when schools start letting out.

Move to the Camelback Corridor. Take 51 to the airport.

Even though most days you'll get to Sky Harbor in less than an hour from Power/Ray or whatever nearby Gilbert neighborhood you choose to live in, I just don't see the point of living there because you'll still hover near the hour commute range, especially with rush hour traffic. You are much better off living closer to Sky Harbor, but not necessarily right next to it. This is Arizona not California. There are plenty of affordable neighborhoods in other areas. They might cost slightly more than a comparable house in Gilbert, but that's not always the case.

Panhandlers supposedly don't live in the actual neighborhoods. If you spend time driving around Tempe, Chandler, Mesa, hell even South Scottsdale you'll notice what I mean by "poor" minority neighborhoods that were long abandoned by the original owners. Then drive through Gilbert and tell me you see anything other than predominantly white neighborhoods that are at least middle class. Nothing against that, but most of the people there are the type that get scared when a Hispanic grocery store opens up even a few miles from them. I feel like Gilbert was established because people thought Mesa and Chandler weren't homogeneous and new enough for their standards.

No, I honestly think those are the reasons that people choose to live in Gilbert. I'm upper middle class, so I don't think I have anything against my own "kind" if you want to play that card. Good to know that you're from Gilbert and pride yourself in being in the middle to upper middle class category. That really disproved my theory. Thanks!

My office is at the south side of south mountain, near the 202/Pecos Rd. Or almost at the end of E Chandler Blvd, take your pick. Officially Phoenix but borderline Ahwatukee. I commute right now from Tempe, takes me about 20 minutes at 9:00 and later. My preferred neighborhood once I start looking for apartments is anywhere east of 51, south of camelback and west of Country Club in Mesa. Even at the farthest reaches in either direction, I'm looking at a max of 40 minutes commute...after 9:00 a.m. My office has flex time and every one comes and goes at will.
