We are a retired couple looking to move to a small town in Northern Nevada so we can be closer to family in Kalifornia.

We live in a small town in Vermont and like the way people are considerate of one another and hear that rural Nevada people are also honest and considerate.

What is a good small town for a retired couple who likes the outdoors? We like gardening, hiking, mountain biking, and socializing with other people over 50 years old.

I'm not sure what's up with "Kalifornia" but you may want to consider Ely. It is a very small town in a remote location in East Central Nevada. It is nestled in the mountains and very near great public spaces; Cave Lake State Park is right outside of town, Great Basin National Park is about an hour away, various other areas with hiking, biking, fishing, camping, etc are very near by also.

Check out Winnemucca - a nice little town of about 7500 people. It's also closer to "Kali" than the other suggestions.

Garnerville, Minden or Carson City. Decent northern NV weather year round. Close enough to Lake Tahoe to enjoy it but not put up with the severe winter weather. Small town atmosphere but with abundant shopping, entertainment and cultural activities.

Default No there there

Do you mean no there there in Lovelock?

Just took a loop drive thru Reno, Lovelock, Fallon, Yerrington, Garderville/Minden, Carson City. Lovelock seemed very agricultural. I'm not sure what a retired person would do there.

South of Carson City seemed very nice and modern but it looks like people from California are moving there. I wonder how it will look in 10-20 years.

I guess the next visit, we have to go further East - Winnemucca, Lamoile, Ely.

Does the weather get much different as you go slightly further north or east?

Lovelock doesn't have much going on, it is primarily a service area for mines and ranches.
I like Yerington, but east and north is better yet.
Douglas, Carson and south Washoe counties, like Clark County are really just extensions of CA.

The weather gets sharper as you go north and east, colder winters, hotter summers, but, it is a dry cold, and heat

Are you outdoors people, hikers, XC skiers, Jeepers etc? If not, you may get bored out in the small towns.
