#3 Is there Natural Gas available? yes

#4 What is the weather like? ie; Wind. we moved here in August and it gets pretty hot (100+). It is also pretty windy at times. The winter has been full of snow and fairly cold so far.

Hi LeeB, I was wondering if you made it out to Fernley and what you thought of it. My parents just bought a house in Fernley and moved into it last weekend. They are from California and have never lived there, just wanted a place they could afford. They bought a newer 3/2 around 1700 square feet for just under $100k. The same house would be around $600k here in California, so this is an awesome deal. My dad is retired and my mom will look for part time work. It snowed last weekend and the locals said it was unusual as their snow season is normally over by now. So far they like it, but of course it's only been one week!

Yes PizzaGirl408 we made it Fernley and it was a nice town. But we have decided we like Sparks. The main reason is Medical my wife is diabetic and there was not Medical in Fernley....

We were in California at the time they got the snow and your right it was a freak storm..

I know this is a year old post but I can answer most of your question.

1. The water is some of the best in Nevada sense the city just installed a water treatment plant this year. But its always wise to get some type of water softener system sense there’s always solids no matter what hear in NV but its not nearly as bad as Elko or Winnemucca aka suckamucca.

2. My wife and I have also used Verizon and still do with ZERO issues and there’s even a little place called 2 brothers wireless that is a franchise carrier but the may be going under with the looks of every thing else =(

3. NG is high cost but there’s plenty of it. When I say high cost I mean if that all you use but that many applies to the homes on the outskirts of town

4. Wind there’s no shortage of it the same with employment in the entire area of Reno, Sparks and so on.

5. I agree with you 110% on the whole CA thing I moved from the bay area about 5 years ago to escape the crime both from gang bangers and dirty cops mostly a Livermore thing with the cops. The taxes are off the hook and homes are real bad price wise. A job that pays $30 an hour equals to $17-20 here no BS. I lived there for 15 years and I knew I was not going to raise a family there for sure. However Reno reminds me allot of CA there’s always something on the news it sucks.

All in All Fernley is a nice city but don’t leave your car doors unlocked. Yes there’s problems with dope heads but it’s not a major huge problem at least from what I’ve seen in the year we’ve been hear.

If you have any other question or want pics of the city I would be glad to help out.

Lee B - you sound EXACTLY like my husband and me except our "experiment" was to North Georgia. We are trying to sell our house and get back west but after spending a couple week in Sacto area at our son's we know we can not handle the noise and everything of California. Very concerned about the financial situation there and the infrastructure potential collapse. We, too, have been looking at northern Nevada. Hate to hear it might be expensive because housing looks so good. Not concerned about a little snow - we get that here and I've come to like the seasons. So we keep looking. Good luck!
