I know a good number of people who solely use bikes/public transportation, so yes. Depends on the neighborhood, obviously, and how far away you work, as well as amenities you want to be near. I don't know that the public transportation is especially "efficient," but it exists and is functional.

Nah, it's not imperative. I have a car but I hardly ever use it. Granted, I live close to downtown where I work so I walk & take the bus every day. I'll tell you though, our bus system sucks. Wait times of between 15 to 30 minutes during morning commute or in the afternoon is ridiculous. But all the buses now have bike racks so that's convenient. Parking can be a hassle as well depending where you live, I can't tell you how many parking tickets I get, lol. The main reason for if I use my car, other than just being lazy & not wanting to walk, is hauling groceries.

Right, buses are a pain and that's why I said I don't know that the public transportation is especially "efficient." But again, they are functional and will get you where you need to go, but this isn't Tokyo.

Like others have said, if you're going to be in the city most of the time then a car isn't needed (I have a few friends who don't have cars). And I can't speak to the bus system from personal experience, but the coverage is pretty good. I can attest that Milwaukee is very bike friendly.

I want to say thanks to all of you. I feel so relieved to know that Milwaukee is very bike friendly and the public transportation is functional. I have not owned a car in two years and I live in Texas and believe me Texans are whole heartily for their vehicles. I am a Texan and my friends and family think I am a nut case to go without a car. So moving to Milwaukee would be so delightful for me.
