Can anybody recommend a good teriyaki joint? Preferrably in the north end of town or even North LV. Or anyhere in town if it's good! ...good flavor and big portions? TIA.

Not sure what a teriyaki joint is, by Sushi Ko at Craig and Tenaya right off US 95 is very good. Tepan grill, sushi bar, and regular menu are all excellent.

I know of no great Teriyaki. I would suggest trying Akasaka on Sahara near Decatur.

As you may or may not know most of the Japanese restaurants in Vegas are Korean...or Tawainese Chinese. Akasaka is one of the few actually Japanese.

Normally I don't mention this.. because like Buzz I think Sushi Ko is fine as is Narita at Lake Mead and Tenaya.

But real Teriyaki may best be obtained from the source. They are reasonably priced as well.

Let us know how you make out.

Shilla just down Sahara to the east of Akasaka is authentic Korean. Pretty good. I like it at least as well as cooked Japanese. Sushi is a different story.

Thanks for the replies, Buzz and Olecapt!

Well, what I'm actually looking for is not necessarily a fancy Japanese restaurant, although I really appreciate the comments and recommendations. I'm originally from the Seattle area and what we had up there are these little "mom and pop-type" hole in the walls. In the affluent suburbs they're almost like Starbucks up there ...seems like one on every corner.

They're really fast food places if you will. Relatively limited menu with fairly fast service. A lot of their business is take out with very limited seating in the establishment itself. Usually their main focus will be on the lunch crowd.

Their menus usually consist of maybe chicken, beef, or pork teriyaki with rice and some vegetable dish. Sometimes they'll have yakesoba(?) choices too.

Anything like that in Las Vegas at all? I thought I've seen them in scattered places but now I can't even remember where.

Thanks again!

There's a small teriyaki place (I think it's called Teriyaki Madness) just east of Craig and MLK and on the south side of the street. We've eaten there only once. The food was pretty good as I recall, reasonable prices and extra sauce on the tables. I like to drown my food.

If you're talking about the teriyaki bowl take away restaurants, they are all over town. Don't know how authentically Japanese they are though. There is a little mom n pop Japanese restaurant that serves pretty good food at Decatur and Craig across rhe shopping center from Montesantos Italian Rest.

I did not know that. I suppose the Italian restaurants are all really Irish? Mediterranian Irish maybe? We're still looking for a good Vietnamese restaurant since Saigon on W. Sahara went out of business. That was some good food. The Vietnamese learned to cook from the French apparently.

Someone at the Sushi Ko teppan grill the other day asked the cook how to say something in Japanese. He said he was Chinese and has worked Japanese restaurants for 20 years and still can't speak any Japanese. I think he is really Chinese/American. I don't think he had any accent. Ha. I guess they gave up on Chinatown being all Chinese and made it an All Asiantown.
