Hi, is there any way to minimize dust? I have never had to clean so much as I have here! Unfortunately, I am a clean freak and also the cleaning lady. Also, do humidifiers help with allergies? I don't want more dust from them though.

I agree the dust here is awful. It makes no difference how much you clean, you will never get rid of it.

Check and change the filters in your furnace, invest in ionizer air machines and humidifiers add humidity to the air so for you they may or may not help allergies. Personally they make the air too wet for me but that is me.

humidifiers can make your allergies worse. dust mites love/thrive in moist air

you can start by investing in a hepa air purifier and high merv rated furnace filters (e.g. 13)

Swamp coolers help during the summer -- if you can stand having your house at appx. 80f instead of AC temperatures. (You cannot run both a swamp cooler and the AC simultaneously. While both work because of endothermic reactions, the way in which they work is mutually exclusive. Basically, it would be like putting a humidifier and a dehumidifier in the same room and letting them fight it out. (Steven Wright.)

The dust isn't nearly as bad in the winter.

The best way to tackle the problem is to install a floor that is the same color as the dust. Drive to the edge of the desert with some floor tiles, and pick the one that is most like the color of our dirt. That's what I did. You can't tell if it's clean or dirty. (Even though I keep it clean. If I let it go a week, no biggie.)

Exactly. Floor the same color as the dust!

There's only one way to beat the Vegas dust - hire more cleaning ladies. And, obviously, don't have carpeting.

Scoop beat me to it. I was also going to say to get all of your furniture in the color of dust so you wouldn't notice the dust too much.

Ever seen the movie Sunshine, by Peter Boyle? One of the crew says to the other:

Dust is 80 percent human skin.
