Did anyone else get amazing December comps? It's like they went nuts! The only place I got great play comps was the Tuscany at $60 per week. The rest are the usual $5 and $10 here and there.

It's all about dinner. We got 22 free(not 2fer and I didn't even count the 2fers) buffets, a $30 food comp, plus we still have $600 free food at the Tuscany. And the buffets we got from Main Street are good on seafood night...never seen that before. We got enough in comps to eat free once a day for the whole month!

I actually get to redo my food budget for the month and buy less!

I'm sure this is just a fluke and it will go away in January. But I will enjoy December!

Yellow....not sure if you can answer this or not. But are the comps better if your a local vs out of state. I am moving there in April, currently come out 3-4 times a year with free rooms through many of the casinos. But once I move and change to a vegas address does it effect the comps, good or bad? Not a huge player but Platinum with total rewards, so I do donate.

Absolutely it does. You may get the same money's worth but in different things. Locals tend to get most of their comps in free play and free food. And gifts. Also there are lots of contests and drawings engineered to get you IN the casino as many times as possible...preferably daily.

You will get lots of pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Since I know you are 55, you are a senior as far as the casinos are concerned and every casino has some kind of senior day that includes discounts on food with other special rewards. It's actually possible to hit a casino on senior day almost every day of the week. Well, at least Monday thru Thurs.

One of the common perks is point multipliers. They will tell you in advance this one specific day is, for example, 10X points. Most of the casinos let you cash in the points for money, free play, merchandise, or food. So if your gambling budget is X dollars for the week, you are better off getting the 10X points. Win or lose, you will probably at least pick up a load of points. Where and when you play can make a difference.

You can always find locals on the Strip and Fremont Street but I think it's probably true that most of us play at other properties and have our favorites. Sometimes smaller places off the Strip that are easier to get to. Fewer crowds, less hassle parking. Almost all the bars have gambling and some of them have comps too.

If you are using a comp for a buffet, you can usually bypass the line. Use the line for invited guests.

Every now and then I get invited to a VP tournament. Those are always fun and I go if I can.

You will still get some room offers and lots of locals use they for staycations or when friends visit.

And always read the fine print on the offers.

I guess we've been hanging out in the wrong casinos. The "we hate locals" casinos used to give free slot play once or twice a month, very low amounts. Now they offer the earn 400 base points to get 20 in free slot play. I tried it once when it was 200 base points, ($200)ended up $17 behind on the deal so never tried it again. At least let me win $1. geez.

In order to get good comps, you would have to be playing regularly in the places offering you comps. Or eating there regularly. And losing enough to make it profitable to them while still offering you good deals.

Usually that is spot on. But we haven't been doing any winning and we are strictly budgeted. I think the difference is we HAVE been getting more play for our money. And we have Stations on the don't go list simply because we don't seem to get much play there and the comps are not very good at the lower levels.

A couple years ago I did well at Stations for a while and made it to President. Whoopee. I still got the same $5.

Pretty normal for December to get the best deals you have ever seen. Especially if its for something after the 12th or so. Actually this is a time when you can even take those in and ask for better if you are so inclined. Just go in and say you know I got these offers and frankly they don't work for me and slowly suggest something else which might interest you. You can't go crazy with a request that is way out of your level, but for example I once took in my two buffet tickets that came in the mail and said you know with the holidays and all these parties and eating I really can't go but I would like something else smaller...ended up with two comps to the steakhouse even though all I did is played poker there for about 8-9 hours.

Yes but at what price did you get the amazing comps??? If you shelled out a lot of money to acquire them it isn't such a deal
