They do have a big event at that time of the year..It's called SEMA and has brought literally close to 200,000 people to that event in November and these people go out all over Vegas and spend money.. Not only club hopping, eating, sightseeing, BUT hosting events at clubs....

They'll go to wherever the rodeo is. But I seriously doubt many of them will prefer Florida to Las Vegas. Texas makes more sense, being centrally-located for the bull-riding crowd.

I also agree with NLVgal -- states try to pry business away from each other all the time. Surely you've seen the "Come to [insert state] and move/open your business here because of [some state policy]" advertisements.

This is no different. People here might dismiss the rodeo crowd as tightwads. But obviously somebody wants their business.

I've already mentioned that if it weren't for the rodeo, I would have very little to do in mid December. The workers on the extra board would go most of the month without any shifts at all. And right before the holidays.

There are something like 40,000 trade shows, conventions, meetings, and big events every year in Las Vegas. If you were a western cowboy where would you rather go, Orlando or Las Vegas? Losing business is always a concern, but if you stay positive, and are expert in these things, you'll fill the void.
LVCVA already presented their counter offer long before the rodeo signed with the Florida officials.

Either way you look at it, LVCVA thought they already have the upper hand in the negotiations when they announced they can stage a rodeo event on their own without the people staging the National Finals Rodeo. Otherwise it would have been foolish for LVCVA to let go of a 30 year business deal that benefited both parties especially Las Vegas knowing the first two weeks of December are slow times in town.

Good for Texas to have a governor fighting for his state and whats best for his people. Wish we had someone like that in the white house.

That's what Texas Gov. Rick Perry is trying to do with the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas. And if he succeeds, the damage he will do the Clark County economy will be catastrophic.

It really sucks when someone comes into your state and tries to lure the things you've created and economically depend on away from you and destroy your economy, doesn't it?

I sincerely hope that Las Vegas can stave off pirate extraordinaire Rick Perry, keep the NFR, and not have it leave to Texas or Florida.

But there is a lesson in all of this for Nevada (if you pay attention), which is:

It really sucks when states, their politicians and state agencies actively try to pirate business off of you and destroy your economy. Nevada actively participated in this sort of thing for years and targeted California. Rick Perry and Texas have also been doing it to us, as well. They think they are being "job creators" but they are actually what I like to call "job pirates" because it was California and Californians that were innovative and job creators, just like it was Las Vegas and Nevada that put on good rodeos, not Texas!

Something to think about, now that you know what it feels like...
I do believe that Las Vegas lured it away from Oklahoma City. And I don't think we created it. And I don't think it will destroy our economy.

I can see Dallas being a better location. Cowboy central.

It is nice to have that bump in December, but it won't be catastrophic.

OP, I can't help but notice your over-the-top use of adjectives. What horse do you have in this race?

In my lifetime here, I've heard a lot of people, some with personal gripes about the place and some who don't like that a {Sin City} exists at all, some who just want to be the bearer of what they think is bad news, over the so many decades of Las Vegas history, have claimed to have knowledge of and foretell of the silver stake that will be driven through the heart of Las Vegas, ending it's demise.

Nothing has worked yet though, lol

Gov. Perry is courting many gun companies from the anti-gun states...funny thing is that Texas itself is on the lower end of gun-friendly states! Nevada is much more gun-friendly...Clark County not so much though, but still better than Texas.

In other words, perry is taking an opportunity that Nevada would have a much better chance taking.

My bad for the post above, it should have been LVE not LVCVA although both work in tandem to promote and stage events in Clark County.
