AT&T switched my number from a CA number to a 702 number for free when we moved here a few years ago. All I did was walk into a local AT&T store and ask nicely. Try it. If that doesn't work, try Google Voice as others have mentioned.

I have Sprint and I was able to change my phone number for free online. Wish Vegas being such a transient town I would find it hard to believe that your phone number would prevent a call back. I wish you luck you are going to have a lot more competition with the unemployment benefits run out.

There is an app called 'burner' if you have a smart phone. Sort of buggy but cheap and gives you the 702 number until you get your feet on solid ground.

If you go with google voice, as others have mentioned, make sure to set it up to go to your cell phone VM. The standard " the google voice subscriber you've reached ..." is hokey and shouldn't be used when applying for jobs.

Why would an out of state number stop you from getting any call backs. If your a worthy candidate on paper. You will get a call. If you cant make it for an interview in a timely manner, then you will be skipped they will move to the next person.

I don't have a good rapport with software. I'd prefer to have a dedicated phone.

I've switched my number with sprint for free. I went to ATT my first week here and they wanted to charge me to do it. I tried to do it online, same fee.

i agree... if you have the job history and the experience, there will be no issues..... i do the hiring for my store... if you've had several jobs in the last couple years, i pass.. if you have no experience and have the right attitude and personality, that get's you a call..... i call the references and previous jobs even before i call the applicant for an interview...biggest questions to the previous employer are how the applicant left (gave notice) and would they rehire them again..... a "no" or "just quit" equals not a call from me... no matter the experience, etc...

Normally I give notice, my last job did not get that courtesy. It was flat out terrible.
The job before that, I worked for 8 years, they received an entire month's notice. Quit because I wanted to move here.

Your absolutely right in my opinion. Aptitude and attitude trump working experience in my book. When I call the previous employer and get the not eligible for rehire answer. Its all over and I move on to the next candidate. Constant job hopping shows me that you are a problem child and not reliable. I rather wait for the right person and let the department run a little understaffed than have another headache to manage.
